I wonder about the engine...it's smaller than one used on Jenny.

Hi Warren

I'm afraid I had to resort to Wikipedia to figure that one out!

OK - next question... can anyone identify this beastie?

Ah yes. The famed JuP-847 ThunderStuk. A short lived, pre-WWII venture between Junkers and Republic.

OK, if it's my turn now -let's roll...

Who are the people on the picture. No more clues will be given, there are enought on the picture. I also require a short story of these people/squadron and the war they fought in (in just few words)

Hmmm. I am almost 100% sure it is an Italian aircraft... and the spears through the markings MAY mean it has something to do with Africa.. But that is all from me.. Over..

Hi Michal

The badge was indeed the giveaway and easy to find on the internet.

If the site I found is correct, it's Merian Cooper and Cedric Fauntleroy - American volunteers in the 7th Squadron of the Polish Air Force (the Kosciuszko Squadron) during the Polish-Soviet War of 1919-1921.

Rowan, you're above any competition...

As a curiosity for the users: after this war Merian Cooper became a movie producer in Hollywood. He produced a KingKong movie in 1933 (he played a fighter pilot in the final scene) and created a famous duo of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. During ww2 he was a Chief of Staff of gen. Claire Chennault in China.

Over to you Rowan.

Cheers Michal

That's an amazing story. I've watched the original King Kong many times and never knew that!

OK, next question - and I think this should be nice and straightforward. Here's a cockpit to identify...

Hi Warren

It actually made a nice change for me to be able to find something on the Net! Some of the recent questions have totally defeated my efforts at searching. This time I just searched for "Polish Air Force Insignia" and scrolled through the resulting images until I found the 303 Sqn badge. That was the start of a short hunt back to the Polish-Russian war.

All the best

Rowan

EDIT: In fact, even easier would simply have been to re-read Michal's review of the MiG-29 painting masks that he wrote recently - the same insignia was plastered all over our Frontpage when I checked a moment ago! LOL!

Good to hear you had some fun Actually I thought that the badge will be easy to recognize and link with the 303rd SQ...7th Squadron was the unit where it was used for the first time and so the story goes... The white and red stripes and blue stars were used as the symbol of America, the hat in the middle and two crossed scythes as the symbol of gen. Tadeusz Kosciuszko fighting against Russia in Poland in 1794 after he fought in the American Revolutionary War (building for example the West Point fortress). Ok, that's enough. Wainting for the Warrens question.
