Thanks heaps for the support guys, I really appreciate it.
Like I said, don't look too closely, but it's come out ok and (hopefully) will be even better with some NMF and markings over the next couple of days.
Frustrating as it was, this was still a very worthwhile build for me as it taught me a lot about fixing problems and how different fillers behave. I used Mr Surfacer 500 and 1200, Squadron Green and Tamiya Basic on this build and also tried a few different ways to smooth and sand them.
Now it will be my first Alclad Adventure, and I've just received some Promodeller washes in the post, so I'll try them out on it as well !!
This thing could look sensational, or more likely tragic, by the end of proceedings.
Cheers, and thanks again, D

@ Damian: how about a truthful review for everyone to really know the virtures of this kit ( and name the maker )
Bob
You got it Bob. Modelcraft F-82E, kit #48-021.
Plastic is very soft, interior details are virtually non-existent, nothing fits.
The only positive is the fine engraved exterior detail. I can highly recommend that you buy something else !!
I've just had a close look at the decals and they are covered with very fine cracking, so I'm not even going to try them. This will be a totally fictitious set from the spares box.
Nige, awesome job mate. Your P-51 is a stunner. I'm loving those miracle masks more every time I see them used, gotta get me some one day. Mad masking and painting skills all round there !!
Cheers, D

Matt , she looks great ! The older kits can be a joy to build with out worrying about adding all that extra detail . Thanks for taking part in the GB ......so how many do you have hanging from the ceiling ?
Well Damian , for some one who hasn't tossed in the white towel you have done a super job on this kit . When most folks would have tossed this in the trash you have add some life to the old girl ! Looking forward to your next up-date .
Very well done Nigel ! I expect nothing less by you . You did a wonderful job on masking the checkers and Mals mask are the icing on the cake !
Thanks for taking part and finishing this build ! I think this is a first for you

Thanks Terri. I'll get a pic or two of the ceiling and post it for viewing. Damian, that is looking great from where I sit. How did you like using Alclad for the first time? I know that after using it once, I bought the entire line of colors they produce. The stuff can get addicting. Looking forward to seeing how you mark her. "Q"

Wow D, that looks great! Wasn't sure it was going to get to the round file or the paint shop first. Now if I can just get my P-51 to the painters....

As promised, here's a couple pics of my fledgling air force. It started with the Ju-88 in the corner and has expanded from there. All of these had issues at some point whether it was missing parts, or less the stellar fit. This is what brought them to the ceiling. I didn't want to trash them and they look good patrolling the basement. ;o) "Q"

Hi all, got some paint on it today, totally fictitious scheme but I like it.
Decals tomorrow, haven't decided which way to go there yet.
Cheers, D

Ok Ok Ok, so I'm impatient !!
Decals are spares from the Tamiya F-84G Thunderjet. The colours worked in with the paint, and the "454" works in well with my upcoming Chev vs Hemi Group Build !!
Thanks Q, and you're spot on, I'm hooked after my first go. The LHS is gunna love me next visit !!

I've done a bit more work on my Mustang. I will be preparing it today for its first coat of Aluminium but here's a couple of progress pics.

Thanks! It's done using Eduard colour zoom etch.
Sadly the seat is leaning slightly to one side, so it will be a closed canopy model. That said, I have other Mustangs in my stash, so I'll watch out for that problem next time!
thanks
Mike

I'm sorry boss, I'll work faster, honest I will !!
My bench was hijacked yesterday by Josh, I promised he could get a start on his build for the Next Generation Campaign. He originally planned to build a 1/72 Privateer, but after watching me on the F-82 and looking over my shoulder at this thread he changed his mind, and it's relevant here as well. He's started an old Revell P-51B, and it's in Warren-scale as well (thirty-tooth) !!
We picked it up cheap at a swap meet with no decals, and a club mate kindly donated a set of spares from a P-51D. so we'll make something up as we go for markings.
Anyhoooooooo, the F-82 now has a coat of flat clear and just needs a spot of weathering (chipping on the props and a wash) to call it done !!

Ok guys and gals, I'm calling this Pig COOKED !!
Flat clear thismorning, 6 hours to think about it, Promodeller Black wash this afternoon, then some Tamiya Weathering Pastels for the exhaust stains.
My first time with both Alclad and Promodeller products, and I like them both a lot.
Thanks for a great Campaign Terri, and I humbly apologise for all of my swearing and cursing during this build !!

@Damian: What a nice finish. No way anybody can tell from the last pictures what a horrible kit it was.

Thanks for the comments, I'm happy (and surprised) with the way it turned out considering what I had to work with !
Thanks Terri, that's because you lot keep telling me what to do and how to do it ! How could I spend so much time here and not learn a few things ?
Cheers, D
