(And now to chuck a bomb in the middle of the warm and fuzzy group)
But it isn't a P-51 Damien... It is an F-82 or whatever I thought...

That's why I sought permission from the boss lady to enter this build waaaaaaaaaaay back at the early stages of the discussion thread. My thoughts went along the lines that the first F-82 was built from 2 XP-51F fuselages that were extended by about 145cm just behind the cockpit, so the pedigree is there. The fact that it has always been colloquially know as the "Twin Mustang" also helped my cause.
Bomb defused?

There was a bit of bother fitting the the fuselage halves together with all the etch in place but other than that theres no problem at all.
thanks

Thanks D. The od silver went down well enough considering, I used Testors airbrush thinner instead of something from Floquil (same company who knew?) thinner. Nozzle got gummed up at the end and I couldn't even out the stripes. I'll try to get the right stuff and put another coat on, it should work out OK.

Great finish Damo and Mark. But too shiny and not green enough.
Here is what a mustang is supposed to look like.
Green and grey, it's the new NMF
Should just about get this finished by the end of the month.
Not bad JP, but you need to practice a bit more with that airbrush mate, there's all funny pale patches on the wings !!

Happy New Year Terri, I was never really away, I'll always come back to your campaigns.
Had a lovely Christmas despite no running water for 8 days. Back to basics and the great thing about Ireland is there is always plenty of rain to collect.
Then in the new year a few of cricket fans ran an Ashes group build competition which Australia won 3-2. Ach well at least the cricket was fun
Now just to tidy up that (a)patchy wing

Hi
Here's how my Mustang looked a couple of days ago.
http://gallery.kitmaker.net/showphoto.php/photo/352509/ppuser/32734
http://gallery.kitmaker.net/showphoto.php/photo/352510/ppuser/32734
Its now finished and in the gallery. Just to confirm, its an Academy 1/72 P-51C Mustang of the 530th FS, 311st FG, China, July 1945. I used Eduard's colour zoom etch and True Details weighted wheels for extra detail and Eduard canopy mask to make life easier.
The NMF is done using Vallejo model air Aluminium as I can't get the hang of Alclad. Had no end of bother masking and painting the OD patch in front of the canopy. The paint went on all patchy and lumpy, so I had to sand it down and start again. The masking tape also pulled off half the gloss varnish I'd used to seal the Aluminium paint, so I had to sand and reaplly some more Aluminium and varnish. Still lessons learned, I'm thinking of painting the OD patch first next time I do a NMF plane.
thanks
Mike

I'm at this stage in the project.
With only six campaign days left, I'm not so sure I can complete it. The project is important enough to me that I'm going to try over the next few days. If it does become another hanger queen, theres no one to blame other than my vagrant, hoboish lifestyle.

Looking great Guy, the camo came up really well and the white stripes, spinner and rudder work is very clean.
I'd blame Terri, obviously her Campaign duration is too short
Cheers, D

Very nice job on the camo Guy ! Even if though you might not finish her in time , don't let it become a hanger queen . Keep up with the build and share it with us . Would be a shame to put it back in the box after coming this far along in the project .
Oh yes , and don't listen to Damian . Obviously he has been drinking once more

Now that I see what a fine job JP is doing and how close he is to finishing, I'm thinking the ponies have left the gate and were in the final lap for the for the banner.
Today, I applied the proper sky fuselage band, touched everything up, and then gave it a coat of future in preparation for the decals:
I've also prepared all the small parts:
Thankyou for the past words of encouragement, Damian and Terri

Thanks JP, I'll see you at the finish line.
I'm probably becoming a bother posting so many photos of the same plane, but I want you to see that I have the decals on and share the issues I had in application.
I used AeroMaster decals, and I did have some troubles getting them to lay down. Of course, AeroMaster does offer a high quality product, and I''m not sure why these gave me grief. I had to use MicroSol applied with a brush to soften them up for positioning, and it seemed to make things worse. As you can see, the top left roundel was slightly ripped during the struggle, and the CV is a little crooked. I'm going to have to chaulk it all up to inexperience, and live with it.
Aside from that, I'm giving it another 'Future' coat to seal in the decals and continueing on.

Hang in there Guy. You've got a much better chance of finishing than I do. I don't want this one to become a hanger queen.. but, I need to get one more coat of silver on, then mask for the OD, yellow and red. Then finish assembling it and then and then and then... Just not gonna make it with cold wet weather and a job..

Been there and done that Mark with builds keep at it and see you at the finish line If not we would still like to see the finished project posted !
