Hi Terri:
Engine really looks good. Your efforts really paid off, and like you said, it will draw the viewers attention to that area to see the detail that you have included in it.

Thank-you for the kind comments guy's . I'm trying really hard to keep the level of detail with the same realm as the cockpit with out over doing it in one area so every thing will blend just right . Just have to finish doing the detail painting on the engine and start masking the frame and ribs of paint .

You don't have fat fingers ! Think of it as , they are growing and the rest of the body can't keep up !
I have done some more work on this project . I used Rodens decals for the upper under wing for the effect I will be going with and had no troubles with them so far ( knocks on wood , twice ) . once these are good dry a few coats of future will go over top to really seal them to the surface leaving them to dry a few days then it;s masking the ribs for the shadow effect . Fuselage is ready to go . Long weekend coming up so I will have three days in front of the bench

I do have an up-date , after spending three days on masking off all the ribs and framing and spraying the edges of the tape with a mixture of black and brown , letting this dry and the spraying the CDL only to have the undersides of the wings paint crack like old my winter does to ice . I had to strip it all off which was a good thing in the end . The effect I was going for wouldn't have work out that way . Now I went back over the ribs and framing with two different sizes of sharpies . The decals on the under side of the top wing made it out un touch so I don't have to redo that part . I'll have some pic's up later this evening .

Thanks Keith , you would think we would learn from past experience's on what to do and what not to do .
After stripping the paint off and drawing on the frame and rib work , loading up the airbrush this time with Pollyscale CDL , this did not go well . the black lines are to sharpe and the end result look really bad . So I washed off the paint ready to start once more .
Here are some pic's of the fine mess I managed to turn this into . ( Warning , do not try this at home ! It takes years of professional training to create a mess )
Well the gallery is down at the moment so pic's will be up later .

This the under side of the top wing , my goal here was to have a see through look showing the under side of the national marking when looking from the under side . If that makes sence .
The engine made it with out any harm being done to it of any kind !
I will over spray the black lines with some grey to tone it some more . It's to sharp through the paint and to clean it up a bit more before the top coat .
I don't want to try the pollyscale again . Does any one else have a view on what to use for CDL ?
Was thinking about using Tamiya Buff with some white mixed in . I do have Humbrol # 74 or # 41 to use as a replacement

Hi Terri,
I am really interested in how it will end up the idea of the "look through" effect on the wings!
keep on going!
ciao

I think tose decals being on are going to interfere with your attempts at a see through. The decals represent a coat of paint over cdl and as such, would not be see through on the actual airframe.
As for paint, I use Pollyscale Dirty White instead of CDL. I am guessing this really won't help you though.

Hi Carl,
I also thought a bit of it, and I ended up thinking that we are looking at the underside of the upper wing. After a coat of CDL the desired effect would be as if you saw thrugh the wing and had a glimpse of the upper cockarde.
Am I right, Terri?

Thanks Guy's , it just needs an over coat to tone down the black then I can spray the CDL .
Carl , while looking in photo's in the Windsock and in Squadron single when looking at the underside you can see the framing and the national marking under the top wing . If I do this right it should just show through . I seen this method done before and it is something new to try out , but I should have chossen a better project for this .

Hi Edo , yes that is right . But only if the whole airframe is CDL . If the top side was painted PC 10 you wouldn't see this at all and the ribs and framing on the top surfaces as well wouldn't be so pronounced .
