Beautiful job on the preshading! The roundels showing through the wing will look stunning. You did it just right. Can't wait to see the cdl on her.

Does any one else have a view on what to use for CDL ?
Hi Terri: I used the Tamiya color XF55 that WNW called out for in the SE5.a instructions. I normally don't use acrylics, but thought I would try them. I thinned it using Methyl Ethyl Ketone. I highly recommend a respirator, otherwise I have had luck using Laquer thinner and good old Testors model master thinner.
I am looking forward to seeing how your roundel see through comes out. Great idea.

Listen, Terri. I know from experience, you have to uncross your fingers to paint her. Trust me on this. By the way, for early British types, I use Model Master Modern Desert Sand FS33722.

Thanks Mark and Bud for the tips , but I don't have X-55 or MM sand . Having to use of what I have on hand at the moment . Mixing my own shade , which isn't bad , but not great either . Once the paint is dried for handling I'll post some pic's .

Good day to all ! Yes had some trouble with photobucket , but it turns out I was clicking on the wrong one . but it's all figured out now ....I think !
The effect I was going for didn't turn out like I was hoping it would . But that is all right . There is a healthy stash to try this on again . I believe the grey I used was to dark of a grey and I went a little on the heavy side with it which I shouldn't have . Another factor is the mix I used for the CDL not the greatest but it's not bad and I'm happy with the shade . I did use the kit decals and had pretty good results with them . The struts have been painted and rigging holes are being drilled . I know I should have done this a head of time but it didn't turn out that way .
Next will be start to finish off the detail painting and then start some weathering on the airframe and wings . Then it's make hundreds of tiny little hoops !

Terri,
Stunning work my friend.. Your CDL really looks sharp.Bummer though on the roundels not showing through the fabric,I hope you'll try again on another project. I'm looking forward to seeing this little bird all weathered.Again excellent project Terri.
Highest Regards,
Gregory Jouette

It's very nice until now but I think that you have to improve a bit the quality of the photo's
Cheers Nick

I really like what you are doing with this build. When I finally figured out what you were doing with the decals (Ahhh, I see said the Captain), I was anxious to see the results. So sorry that didn't work out right. But it was a great idea and this is a really good build so, don't get discouraged.
Glad to see you found Photobucket.

Thanks Guy's !
I have made progress on her today , the first stage of weathering is finished and same with all of the rigging holes ! This will be seal with dull coat to lock to the surface . Then the wing can get mounted and rigging begins .
Carl , I'm not discouraged over this build at all so far it has been enjoyable , minus the paint mishap but that seems to be happening with all of builds of late .
I'll have some more pic's up soon again

Hi Terri!
Very niceli done! but, ehm..., I can't see the effect we were discussing about the "transparency" of the upper wing....how did it turn out?
ciao

Thanks Edo , no it didn't turn out like I was hoping it would . The grey base coat which I used to tone down the black lines was too heavy of a coat and too dark . The mix I used for the CDL was also laid down to heavy . It was a new method for me which I will be trying again . Little dissappointed that it didn't turn out , but I'm discouraged . Still have a few DH-2 and a Bristol scout along with Greman aircraft where I can try this effect on the wings . I'll get it right one day !
