Which one are you thinking about doing?
Well, as today I was thinking about the Eduard Fokker D.VII O.A.W.; it has lozenge, it's a biplane and as far as I know, doesn't have rigging. so will be a nice start for me. what do you think?
Let's do some plastic.

Excellent choice for your fist WW 1 subject . Only rigging is on the landing gear and bracing wire for the rudder fin . Another good choice would be the Fokker Dr.1 or even the Fokker E.V / III .
I'm reading your palm right now and it is telling me you should buy one even a few , because you will get hooked and there is no turning back ..............

I am afraid that you are right on that
, I feel the need for some dental floss (as in bundle of thin nylon filaments or a plastic (Teflon or polyethylene) ribbon)
Let's do some plastic

Thanks Hugh , I'm planning on adding some ( u ) shape straps by drilling two small holes on either side and fixing them in place .
Which is exactly what I did.
The Cabane struts, on my next build of this kit, will be replaced by a length of Brass Alloy (very high tensile (for Brass), I cannot recall where I came by them) pins and then the strut bulked out with styrene strip. The Brass pins will be set fairly deeply into the Sides of the fuselage to add strength.
Part of my issue, if I remember correctly (I was at this point two years ago), was that the Kit is structured in such as way that if you cut off the nose (as we both have done) then there is no secure point to attach the forward pair of struts.
You will find too that you will need your rigging to be functional. And if you don't do this process (rigging) in a systematic way, every thing will be skewed.
Cheers,
Hugh

I will finish her one day Larsa.... Your builds are making me jumpy.
The prop was put to one side. I will use the kit prop. 1/48 is just too small a scale to try a wooden one (unless I can find some timber that is more consistant... And I may just have some!).

Hi Hugh , I recall your build on this and wonder what happened of it not being finished yet .
Have to agree with Lars , use the kit prop . It's such a fantastic build to be left undone .
I was planning on running tubing through the fuselage for the front lower wing spar . But the amount of work which was needed in the cockpit on redoing ever thing would take me until Christmas time , which I don't have . ( this was to be out of box ) It didn't go that way

Beatiful job so far, Terri. Love how you did the framing. Nice work on the engine. I chose to cover mine (still pretty exposed). Since I've been working on it since November, I just want to finish it. Have you decided on a scheme yet? Have you seen the builds on the Roden site? There's a really nice one by Michal Sudek from the Czech Republic. It's the kit sceme with the Union Jack. Looks a lot better than it does in the Datafile or kit instructions. Keep up the terrific work. Can't wait to see her all dressed up.

Thanks Bud
Scheme you ask ..............some thing I will have to decide on soon here and quit changing my mind . The fuselage and tail pieces now have there primer . The little bits left for the engine can be added with fear of ruining the paint once it has been applied . Masking of the frame work will start after the prime has dried for a few days .
I do need some help though on the lead wires for the spark plugs , were are this hooked up to ? Not very clear pic's in the datafile , put does have a lovely pic of the sump pump !

Hi Terri,
The Spark Plug Leads run back to a platform at the rear of the Crank case that holds the Magnetos (two of them, one for each bank of cylinders). I will see if I can find a photo for you.

Unfortunately, all I can find at the moment are shots of the engine details I did for my BE2c.
I will keep looking.

That is perfect Hugh . Thank-you very much for your aid . I'm not planning on going nut's with the detailing , but since the engines panels are off there is this big empty space so it does need something to fill that void . Maybe by the end of the week these parts will be added to the block , but here's to hoping !.
Nice job on the oil sump

Hi Terri,
That's my slightly oversized rendition of the Claudel Hobson twin Carburettor. The induction pipes from the carby are cast integral with the back plate of the crank case. The carby bolts to the bottom of the back plate and the Induction pipes extend from the top and forward along the cylinders.

Terri,
Wow Hugh did a fantastic job on the engine for his BE-2. Not a doubt in my mind your example will be equally as well done. Keep up the excellent work.As always your updates never fail to be most impressive.

Thanks Gregory . I have finished adding the detail and primed ready for paint now . I also had to redo the front framing do to it being drop on the floor nose first , which turned out rather well . Didn't care for the detail I added and found some better items to use within the spare parts . Will have pic's up of this later tonight ................................

On
www.Flightglobal.com in the Archive section, search for Rigging, for the date; From: 1918, To: 1918.
The article for November 21, 1918 is the rigging manual for the BE-2C. An interesting read fo those who are doing this model.
Enjoy
