Hi all.
Time for this slumbering campaign to wake up. I am all set with my 1/48 Spitfire PrXIX for the start on Jan 1st, 2011. How's everyone else fairing? I noticed there has been quite a few new Spitfire releases so far this year. Particularly Admirals 1/72 late Griffon Spit's and there's Airfix's 1/48 Seafire to look forward to.
All the best.

Is it time, WOW I need to clean off my desk so that I can see my campaign schedual (how ever you spell it) just to see what date it is now and pull my Spit down and dust off the box. Thanks Tim for letting us know

Yes! Finally getting close

How about, and I'm just thinking out loud here, the Prototype and a Mk. 24 for a sort of "first and last" kind of thing? I know, there were Seafires after the 24, but you get it.

Anyway, both in 1/48, the Tamiya Mk.I with the Paragon conversion and the Airfix Mk. 24.

Man, I can't wait. I do love the Spitfire!

Hi

Just checking, is this the campaign starting in January? If so I'll do an Airfix Mk Vc Trop with airwaves etch and true details weighted wheels.

Incidentally, my online model store is stocking quite a few Spitfire kits and accessoeries in 1/72. We have both the old and new tool Airfix MkI Spitfires plus the new tool Mk IXc and PR XIX.
We have the 3D kits Spitfire MkII conversion sets and decals. We have the conversion sets that will do 2 models with 5 different marking (decals) options. These are for MkI's and II's with Rotol props and will work with either of the 2 Airfix MkI's or Tamiya MkI. It even says something about it could be used to help make a Tamiya MkV into a rotol prop MkV. We also have the decals on their own in 1/72 and 1/48
We have the Airwaves etch for Airfix MkI and MkV Spitfires and True details weighted wheels for any 1/72 Spitfire kit.

Please PM me if anyone is interested in any of the items.

thanks
Mike

Michael S, nice choice. I love the prtototypes color and I tried to build an old vac kit of the Mk 24 ( never got the fin and fuselage to line up) and would love to see your build.

Hi all
Michael S I like your thinking, first and last.
Michael W yes the campaign starts 1st Jan, 2011.
cant wait to get started myself. It's been a while since I built a Spit. I think the last one I did was the Academy 1/48 MkXIV, and strangely it's the basis for the PRXIX I want to do.
All the best.

Well, I've got the Tamiya 1/72 scale Spitfire Mk Vb in North African markings and colors. I think I'll join the campaign with this one. Russell

i've been doing a bit of research recently and found that some of the people involved in the original spit prototype made a replica some years back which now lives at tangmere museum.

the colour is a real pain as it changes depending on what angle you look at it...

1/48 tamiya spit prototype with paragon conversion.

Hi paul
That's a beautiful replica, and nicely photographed. Quite a few subtle differences between the prototype and the Mk I. Looking forward to your build and hope you dont have too many headaches with the colour. Thanks for posting the image.
All the best.

Hi Tim,

Regarding your 1/48 PR XIX build: I guess I might be stating the obvious, but the PR XIX was never flow operationally with a contra-prop. There have been a few warbirds which have used Griffons from Shackleton donors which have retained their contra-props.

A bit late now, but Heritage do an all resin XIX kit in 1/48 for £38:

I don't think I'll have enough time to build Spitfire for this campaign, but I'll be watching the builds when it gets going!

Hi Ben.
Yes I know the PRXIX with contra props never flew operationally, the one I am modelling is one with an ex shackleton engine and contra props, PS890. Bjorn [Polar Bear] posted a good photo of it on the second page of this thread. It's interesting though that PS890 is now flying with a five bladed prop, as it should really. But I am just taken with contra props and my project is just a excuse to use one on a spit. Thanks for the link, that is a cool looking kit. Sorry you wont be able to build your spit Ben. All the best.

Tim,

Just had a look through the thread and this already looks like it's going to be a great campaign. I have a Spit kit heading my way at the mo on a slow boat from China So as soon as that gets here I'll join in.

Cheers

It's the Mk IX in 48 scale from Italeri. From reviews it looks a decent kit with some interesting options for markings.

What are the chances of getting an extension if I take on one of the 1/24th scale Airfix Spitfires? If I do I will likely need lots of help as I will not be able to hide a mistake with a sandbag and mud.

Hi Darren
I would not have thought it would be a problem giving you an extension if you are doing the Airfix Spit in 1/24. I like to see builds across all scales.
Hope this helps.
All the best.

Tim,

I feel a change coming. I'm thinking of switching my build to an Eagle Squadron Spit Vb, the 1/24 Trumpeter kit. Gonna have to do my own markings, but I think it would look cool with a 1/24 Vintage Fighter Flying Tiger Tomahawk.

Would it be OK to make the switch?
