Greetings Mark,
Tell us about the fuselage mottle decal. How many pieces did you use? Do they need Microsol or set? Was there a positive reaction? Anything negative to watch out for?
All very good questions , for I'm curious as well to how you applyied them .

Hi everyone,
I used one piece to do the fuselage. The decals are very thin and translucent. They can be easily torn if you aren't careful. Watch out that the decal doesn't fold over on itself, it will create a darker area. While I was gently pushing the decal into place I accidentally got a piece on my thumb and it stuck to the fuselage - the dark triangle shape area above the footstep....

This is how it darkens if it becomes layered. However the decals are rather forgiving when it come to patching up the mistakes. I painted over the dark spot with Tamiya Desert yellow with a brush then cut out a small piece of decal to go over it. Worked out pretty well.

After the decal settled down a bit I used Micro Sol and used a new knife blade to poke a few small holes to take care of some bubbles around the nail heads where the decal didn't settle down as well. The Micro Sol really made the decals settle into place but it did make them very soft until they dried so don't touch them before they're dry.

Hi Mark
Many thanks for the extra explanation. I must admit that I was rather dubious as to how well the decals would go on and produce the effect of a continuous pattern. All credit to Mirage - and you of course!
- the result looks excellent.
All the best
Rowan

Mark,
Outstanding work my friend. Love the fuselage camouflage decals too.I wonder how difficult it would to recreate the same scheme by hand?

Gregory,
I was wondering about that too. I'll try some experiments later. I have the flames on.............

I was worried the paint and decals wouldn't match but they did. (Vallejo red)
The elevator has a few chips in the edge where it didn't mould correctly, after I fix them I'll do the lower flying surfaces.

more soon,
Mark

Thanks Terri. I used left over rib tapes from my LVG and cut them in half length wise. Working on the edging right now.

Wing edging is complete, I have more work to do on the centerwing section.....................

the wing compass.............

the fuselage.........................

For those of you building the kit, watch out for the decals at the bottom of the sheet outlined in a dotted red line. They are VERY fragile. Move them off of the carrier with a wet brush and hold your breath.
