Yeah, I know, too many Campaigns, not enough time. Rest assured, this is going to be waaaaaaaay down the track into 2011 before it starts, and that is provided we get enough starters !!
After I built my He115 and Jesper (SGTJKJ) has done such a fine job on his Do18 in the Seaplanes Campaign, a few members started to reminisce about the old Matchbox 3-colour kits, and thoughts of a group build began to emerge.
So I put it to the masses, who has one or more in the stash, who wants to step back in time and cringe at the colours, the fit, the lack of detail, the raised panel lines, and BUILD THE THING ANYWAY ?!?!?
And so it begins . . . . . . . . . .
Cheers, D

re pops allowed? Or do we have to prise them from the cold dead hands of collectors? Either is good for me

I'm thinking original boxings, but as always I value the opinions of those much wiser than I in such matters. One concern I have is that these kits are getting scarce, and perhaps people won't want to build them.

I am on for this campaign.
Still a lot of the old original boxings available. However, I think we should allow reboxings as long as the tooling of the parts is the same. Fx. Revell has reboxed the Holifax, Beaufighter among others.
Start mid 2011 would probably be good.
Check different trading sites for old Matchbox kits. Fx. see this selection of MATCHBOX AIRCRAFT AT EBAY.CO.UK

Here are a couple of banners.
We should not use the banners yet. We need an actual campaign sign up page first. However, now they are ready if there is enough back up for the campaign.

Well if I don't build the Do-X this year I'll build it for this. And it is a Matchbox boxing. Jeez they are £15 on ebay!

original boxings
How would I know? I've got ~ 4 in the stash, F-86A, PB4Y-2, B-17G, CH-47C. I think the Privateer and the Flying Fort are, not to sure on the other two. Pics will have to wait til the weekend.
I guess since I helped push D into this, I I'd better volunteer. Need to make it a longish campaign, there's tons o work to get done!

Only one thing Jaypee, that is not a Matchbox kit. It was and is, a Revell mould so I don't think it qualifies.. unless the Campaign leader says it does..
I think we should only do original Matchbox kits as who knows if Revell have changed the molds or not.. I know they have with the 1/32 Sea Venom kit I finished recently.

I'm keen! I built loads of these as a kid. I've got the Victor I posted in the bomber campaign thread, plus I often see these kits come up for sale on Trademe over here.

I'm not in, but I wish I had this matchbox Vickers Wellesley in 1/72
I like the double canopy of it, the strange geodetic design & the large wingspawn
Cheers Nick

Should the "M" shaped stand be a requirement?
Posted: Monday, July 19, 2010 - 04:29 PM UTC
Wow guys, we're off to a flying start !!
@ Jesper, awesome banners mate, I've saved them for future use
@ Mark, my thoughts as well. In my fumbling attempts to lead such a Campaign, how do I identify a re-pop as original Matchbox moulds ??
@ Sabot, very nice thought, perhaps the "M" stand should be compulsory if it was supplied with the kit. Does anybody know if that's the case ?? I will check in my 1/32 Bf 109 once I get it.
Keep the questions and comments coming all, keep the interest levels high !!
Cheers, D

Yup the Revell Do-X is a repop of a Matchbox of a repop of the Otaki kit. Forgot about that. Since this is one for the purist.
Leave it till April 2011 and that gives me a couple of shows to pick up a Matchbox or two

I was just joking, but I believe it was only standard issue with their 1/72 scale aircraft, and just the smaller ones (don't know the color range) at that.
Somewhere, in my vast collection, I have the B-17 Flying Fortress. I know where my A-10 and AH-1G kits are though.

I've got the B-17G in the stash, don't recall it having a stand. I'll try to dig it out this weekend and post some pics.

Mark, I build the same kit for the Aluminium campaign. It is a good kit which fits together nicely and has some attractive camouflage schemes. You should look forward to that one.
I just bought this kit for 4,70 pounds on ebay.co.uk. Looks like a really nice kit and some nice details taking into consideration it was made in 1979(!!) Also the decals seems to be ok despite the age. Some nice camouflage schemes are included.

That's just what we need Jesper, a few kit pics to keep the thread cooking !! I managed to pick up a Bf 109 kit in 1/32, so I'll post a few pics later today.
Anybody else out there want to help us step back in time with some visual aids ?

I found a few kits easily accessible on my shelf that are unbuilt. I found (all 1:72 scale):
PK-9 Bell AH-1G Huey Cobra
PK-10 BAC 167 Strikemaster
PK-15 Gnat Mk 1 Trainer
PK-43 Bell OH-58D Kiowa
PK-401 Heinkel He 115
PK-410 Grumman Prowler
No "M" stand with the two helicopters or the Prowler, but the Gnat and Strikemaster have them and the Heinkel has a large one. I'd post pictures, but I've lost that ability here long ago. I'll try to upload them to flicker or photobucket later.

For the princely sum of £1.30 + £2p&p I've snagged a Waddler.
PK-105
I would build it right now, looks neat in white and silver plastic. Love the two tone.
Would be a shame to paint it

Neat site. Looks like all my boxes are the early 80's packages. Sorta hoped that they were older.

Tee-Hee!!! I was surfing and got an idea.
How about I spend a little of hubby's money on EBay. The anniversary is coming up, and all I ever get is a sad kiss and the flowers that just die in two days anyway. This is called "Progress"!
For later, after my Ki-27.
