I've just caught up on your postings, as usual very enjoyable!

Regarding the troublesome painting of the fin: in my opinion there is still nothing that beats Gunze acrylics for detail work (at least if you want to use acrylics). I have tried most other brands but always end up as you did with the Lifecolor no matter what I thin them with.

This is going to be awesome when finished!

Harald, thanks for your interest... but let's not spoil this beautiful thread! Heinkel will pop-up again at some point. The only thing I can say at the moment is that the (resin) wings warped beyond recognition. (Heating it in warm water didn't help at all) Probably I haven't stored it properly, but it may be that my model has some faults (it is pretty old). I will think my way through... Thanks for asking!

Thanks, everyone! Sharp eye, Entoni- that blemish was part of a battle with Lifecolor paints. I had to cut this post a bit short due to lack of time, but the Lifecolor and the masks don't mix. The stuff bleeds under every time! After two tries, the basic paint softened up enough to pull up along with the masks. I should have sanded it but didn't notice at the time, and now I'll just live with it. That';s why I used the Model master enamel RLM 76.

Thanks for the tip, Magnus- I'll try Gunze next time around. I did go back to touch up that fin- and it looks much better.

Scrodes, I'm willing to bet that that is the same beading set- I bought mine at Military Hobbies an Orange, California for the same price UMM-USA is selling theirs for. A very handy thing it is, too!

Many thanks, all! Those yellow stripes are Eastern front theatre markings. In this whiffer-world Stalin had a stroke after shooting an aide in the face during a big public review. The Russian government collapsed and the Germans moved back in, or some such twaddle.

I would like to thank those who pointed out that blemish on the starboard wing- keep me honest, folks! I'm glad I fixed it, and while I was at it I rubbed the plane down with Micro-Mesh cloths to a smooth finish. The multiple coats of Future had really built up a pebbly finish, but were thick enough to take the sanding. Ever onward- and the end is in clear sight!


Next on the bench? I'm participating in a cancer benefit group build at Modelers' Alliance- still two months to build, give to a worthy cause and, if you complete a kit by the end of December, get in on a really great raffle!

So glad Chuck asked me to do a scheme profile. I'm getting quite a buzz from seeing the Ju388 come to life.

Seeing the end of this build is a bit bittersweet. It's nice to come to the end, but I'll miss all the wonderful tips and entertaining narrative. I'm already looking forward to whatever you decide to build next

Oh, and can we girls have a handsome flieger to ogle? Hmmm?

Chuck! This has been such a joy to follow! The results are first-class but as a modeller I appreciate seeing your tricks and methods almost as much as the finished model!
