Why would I laugh at the Gotha? It was feared in its day more due to the psychological effect the bombing had I think.

Save your self a trip and build the Gotha. (What am I saying!?! Don't add a kit to the stash?!? Blasphemy!!)

If you build the Gotha I'll try for an O/400 if I can get hold of one, and I'll try and rig it!

I need a ruling here. I have just been going through the rules, particularly the no "fighter/bomber" types. Where do we stand on the Panavia Tornado GR1/GR4? The Tornado was developed as a multirole aircraft (much like the TSR2, which I note is acceptable), and I can understand the F3 and ECR variants being unacceptable. I do have something "bigger and badder" if the Tornado is a no go.

Hi,
I can offer a 1/48 B-17 G, a B-25 J Mitchell and a SU-24 M Fencer, the last ones in 1/72. So I'm in.
Still have to decide which one to build. But it's still a long time
By the way, I wish everyone here a Happy New Year!

As for the question about building a Tornado GR1/GR4 for this campaign, I think it qualifies definitely as a bomber. But that's not mine to decide of course

Am I right in saying the start date is June 1st?
I'd be in with an Academy Liberator finished in the markings of one flown by Jimmy Stewart.

On the topic of Jimmy Stewart and big bombers. I remember watching on TV once long ago a movie where he was ferrying a b47 to Okinawa or something. And he had to land in poor visibility and that was tricky for he had a sore hand. I I recall correctly... I could swear that was the entire conflict of the film.

It was pretty plainly a pure Propaganda job funded partly by the Pentagon and partly by Boeing, or at least so it would seem. I think they were adamantly opposed to anything going wrong with that shiny stratojet. So the tension in the flight had to come from ol' Jimmy's sore hand.

The AMT Buff is a kit that requires a lot of love and attention, esp. the H variant. Look out for some BuffMaster bits on ebay, they correct some of the faults but not all.
The biggest let down are the wings, they just don't sag as on the real thing. An un-refuelled one is the easy way round it of course.
See http://sacmodellersgroup.freeforums.org/italeri-b-52h-t54.html for a build log of the AMT (now Italeri H)

I think I know that film, its Strategic Air Command I think. I saw it a few years back. Very typical of early Cold War Hollywood, but I remember it had some awesome footage of Peacemakers and Stratojets.
I'll get some pics of the kit and decals up tomorrow.

Thanks Warren, Thanks Jesse! It's an epic movie with some beautiful flying sequences.

Speaking of Bombers...This a great read about flying B-17's to Europe for a movie.

They don't make em like that anymore!

Here's my build.

And the decals by Iliad designs. Luckily the kit includes the correct nose turret to build it as an H model.

The only downside I can see is that I may have to buy another Liberator at some point to use the kits Dragon and his Tail markings.

This may sound like a silly idea, but why not just build the Dragon and His Tail this time and save the other decals for later...

Happy new year Warren.
Not a silly suggestion at all. It is after all one of the coolest nose-arts eve applied and you'd have to be mad not to have it in a collection. I was thinking it at the time I posted. There are still plenty of Academy Liberators out there, some boxings cheaper than others. I also fancy having a crack at doing one in RAF Coastal Command colours at some point.

You don't really even need an Academy kit. You could do an amazing amount of work to the old Revell kit instead.

Discovered in LHS and the kit doesn't look bad for a fairly old Airfix mould. I never built this before. I seem to be building a timeline of HP bombers, 2 Halifaxes, a Heyford, now this, only need a Victor, Hampden and Hydrabad (does any body make one?) to make the set!

I bought the Dragon and his Tail decals especially for a build, you were lucky enough to get them in a kit!

You could easily build dozens of Liberators and all of them look different. How about an RAAF one in natural metal?

Cheers

That's funny,

I am thinking of doing a Monogram B-24 with the Dragon and it's tail markings.

Cheers Rob.
