Hi Allen,
You're the 1st Jet jocky. Looking forward to your build. I'm leaning towards a 1/48 scale F6F-3 Hellcat, as I've been stuck in the prop age all my modeling life.
Whatever start date the admins decide on, is fine with me. Just hoping that it's past the 1st of the year, so that everyone interested has time to get organized, and ready to build as close to the start date as possible.
That's another goal of this campaign. To get max involvement by having the majority of members be building at the same time. I also opted for a 5 month max time frame for the same reason.
I have to disagree with your assumption that some members don't, or wont' have enough time to post in a separate build blog, but have the time to post in the general thread their progress, and hopefully comment on other builds. To my way of thinking, it takes about the same amount of time.
I looked at the idea of separate build logs for several reasons:
A) over the 5 month campaign period, the main thread will become unorganized, and a very difficult place to follow any build or builds. Making commenting that much harder. With individual build blogs, that becomes a non-issue. It
also leaves the general campaign thread open to just banter, information that's pertainent the the general
campaign membership, and keeps the thread from literally becoming a book.
B: A indivdual Build Blog posted in ther appropriate era forum should create more involement from the campaign members, which is another one of my goals. It also creates more views, and hopefully more comments from the rest of the general Aeroscale population when they visit the era forums that interest them.
A Build Blog can be nothing more then a few start photographs, and a few sentences on the aircraft, and the
builders goals. A min amount of posts should be built & ready for paint, painted, decaled, weathered, and
finished. Each post only needs a few sentences. This would also help new members, as well as members who generally
don't post their work or on other models to become more comfortable with doing so. It's part of the fun of being a active member of Aeroscale.
So if the decision to have, or not to have individual blogs is mine, then I will require them, as well as posting
two finished pictures in the campaign gallery, which is Standard Operating Procedures.
There is a thread in the General Aviation forum that was started last year concerning the overall lack of posting within build Threads. Several members even stated that they stopped posting build blogs for those very reasons. I posted my thoughts, and then decided to do something constructive about that issue. I thought that pushing the campaign envelope would be a excellent way to do that.
