Wow, Jonathan. Your kinda one step ahead, and two steps better than me. I don't have the courage to try a vac kit yet. Yours looks just great.

Thanks Richard and Jessica. It's nice when the effort your putting in a project is noticed, even when it's not perfection.Quoted Texttroubles if you don't coat the decals before using them.
Coat them with what, Jessica. Wouldn't a clear coat crack if your decaling compound curves?
I really like Leading Edge subjects, and own many different sets. I'll have to do something to solve the issues.
Ben I use Microscale Liquid Decal Film, good for old decals and making custom Decals though I have not tried that yet.

Thanks Joel, for the good words. This has actually become my favorite build in quite a while.
I fabricated and mounted a pitot mast and some antennae, and with that ill call it done.
Pictures added pictures to the gallery. It was a nice day to take the pictures outside in the afternoon sun.

Hello again everyone.
Jonathan, very nice job on the C-47 love it. A very nice clean build.
Jessica, nice job on that Orange Scheme. and the DC-4 from what I have experienced those decals are a killer, and exhausting. How did you do the side decals with the windows? those were heck because of their odd shape.. took me quite a while. Then later on I had a duh moment. thought to myself, why didn't I use a knife and section them into 3 parts to make it easier. LOL
Ben hope to see yours finished, looks good so far.
and to everyone, finished or not, this has been a fun campaign for me, and glad I could be involved.
I stepped out of my comfort zone a bit with this kit and had fun with it.
and without further ado here are some of my photos.

Delbert, your DC-4 is looking mighty fine. I really do like that color scheme. Glad you made the gallery.
Just working on my birds landing gear. Not rushing. I've still got all day tomorrow; but if things go well, I'll have photos later tonight.

Hey Ben.. Thanks.
I wasn't too sure about the extensive use of decals when I started it but It does look good. My biggest worry was the nose. Which is painted not decaled, I didn't have any of the recommended paint and I wanted it to match so I mixed up the color I used by eye.. I think it came out perfect..
Careful with that landing gear.. while I was doing some work on mine the other day the plane slipped off the paint bottle I had it propped up on and the front gear broke off.
Guess you would call it a geared down issue on these 1/144 kits.. LOL
and I'll admit to a couple of things here too. I left off the astrodome, personal choice. and from photos not every DC-4 had it.. or it just may be they were removed in later years when they were not needed anymore, really couldn't find out all that much info on the subject.
And the teenie tiny antenna that is suppose to be there. Don't laugh, but it went flying and before I could grab it one of the cats chewed it up..

CF-CRX is complete. CRX was the last of CP Air's DC-3 fleet, and the only one to be painted in the then current "Orange is Beautiful" scheme. CRX was used as a company hack and proficiency trainer until 1974, when it was sold. It was the last piston engine aircraft in CP Air's fleet.

@Delbert - I'm not putting on antenna either. My sons and grandson can't leave things alone, so I figured why bother re-attaching until they grow up.
@Jessica - I really like the scheme and would like to try it myself. It dosen't look like the decals laid down well. And I see you put those little red dots on the fuel ports. I didn't, but now I think I should.
Well done both of you.

The decals were old, and didn't really want to conform to the curves unless I flooded the Solvaset on, which caused other problems (note the right tailplane's de-icing boot). The red dots on the refuelling covers were printed on the walkways; I really didn't have the option to leave them off.

The DC-4 is as finished as it's going to get. I'm not really happy with the painting given it was my first attempt at using Alclad. I can definitely do better. I managed to repair the rooftop decal with paint, and the wing where the Alclad rubbed off with Rub 'n Buff. I'm going to claim that it's very used and worn out.

Jessica & Ben
You both have done a great job on you builds and did not let the models beat you.
Thank you to every one who entered and built for this campaign, don't forget to post in the Gallery.
Any one up for a campaign re-run in 2015?
Richard

While I was done with my campaign entry quite some time ago, I've stayed the course to follow all of your builds. After all, that's what a campaign is all about as far as I'm concerned.
Congratulations to all of you for finishing within the time frame, and producing some outstanding models in 1/144 scale. I can't even see 1/72 scale these days, let alone even attempt a build in a scale half that size.
Jessica, as far as your decal issues over Alcad, I prefer to seal both prior and after with their own sealer: Gloss Klear Kote # ALC 310. that should help to protect that delicate finish from the decal solutions. Although Solvoset is much stronger then the Micro system I use, repeated applications should work. I also never leave any setting solution on any clear coat. I soak it up with the tip of a piece of paper towel or a Qtip, but leave enough on the decal to let it do it's thing. Leaving it has always caused me grief with the exact issues you had.

Hello folks,
sadly I couldn't finish this time because of my decal-desaster, but thanks anyway for another great campaign with splendid models by you all. I'm going to finish my Skyraider when I get my (hopefully in better condition!) other example from ebay. Till next time then, have fun!
Greetings from Germany
Peter
