Now the campaign can take off and soar!
So what trick do I have up my sleeves for this campaign? I'm glad you asked. I'm going to do the great grandaddy of all the Douglas passenger liners, the DC-1 itself
I've got my CMR DC-2
a plan to shorten it, and a custom decal sheet from Vintage Flyer Decals for the DC-1's registration numbers
Now all I need to do is to build the hobby room and clean up all the stuff we piled in there when we moved. This may take a bit...

Aha! I knew it! (actually I really thought you'd do a DC-2, so you tricked me with the DC-1)
Cheers,

Ok, it's day 1 of the campaign. Finally decided to go with the Great Wall Model's 1/48 scale TBD-1 Devastator, Midway kit version.
Right now I'm totally focused on continuing work on my Hasegawa 1/48 scale Douglas SBD-4 Dauntless, which I started just to kill some time till the campaign starts. Want to really complete the cockpit with all the assorted corrections,& details, then put it down, and start my campaign effort. Will be doing a build blog on both in the WW11 forum so it's easier to follow the builds from start to finish.

If it's the one you posted in the other thread it's a DC-2. I can't find any evidence that CMR did a DC-3 kit. BTW, I have the decals from the European box available if none of the options in your box appeal to you.

Snappin
All snapped out
Not using these parts, need to order props. I have cut out vac form props in the past, but, nah, I'll pay for metal ones.
A close trim. Not that anyone here wants or needs advice on vacufom kits, but, I trim carefully because trimming is a more pleasant activity than sanding, which comes next.
Every bit of that rice would have been turned into sanding dust if this step was skipped. You absolutely need to leave a flange to indicate where to stop, but leaving the absolute minimum is the best policy.
Next - sanding.
Maybe tomorrow.

Just to get it in here, so I can start anytime.
I did want to do it in RCAF markings, but, only have them in 72nd scale. So I've settled on the kit offering. It's quite attractive anyway.
I know I'm cheaping out alittle. I've got alot of campaigns to work on, though.
Dont be like that, its not about the money, I paid $2 for my Welsh kit.
That's quite a nice kit you have there, and Minicraft decals are definately the best.
Also, look at all the DC twins in this thread!

Jonathan, I was not refering to the kits cost or quality. I was refering to the parts count and level of detail compared to larger scale examples. I know this is a nice kit, and I own another boxing with alternate markings.

That vac Dak looks like it'll be much easier than the resin one I did last year. It ended up being almost as much filler as model.

Hi Jessica.
How is the fit of your CMR DC-2 Fuselage wing root to the wing recess? mine needs about 1/16" sanded off the wing root to come close to fitting.
I found a 1:200 DC-3 in my stash and also picked one up at LHS today for $9(both Hasegawa re-boxed by Dragon USA)could be the next build.

I did a little test fit and found that it was extremely tight, but mine eventually clicked into place with a bit of persuading. I noted in my review that the fit could be improved with a little sanding. Of course I haven't tried the second kit yet...
Since I'm taking the nose off I think I'm going to be doing a fair bit of work getting it all together anyway so I'm not particularly worried about how it fits.

Maybe this should be the DC- campaign?!
OK, gotta settle on a project here. My options are: Accurate Miniatures SBD-3, a vintage Monogram TBD Devastator, a Promodeler A-26B, or one of 3 ERTL A-20 variants.
A little help on a suggestion is needed. (though I should mention that I'm already building an A-26C for another campaign)
cheers,
Fred

Way back when Tinbanger first proposed it that's exactly what it was supposed to be but we couldn't get sufficient interest so we opened it up to all Douglas propeller aircraft. We're just keeping the Douglas Commercial spirit alive
I've never seen that Accurate Miniatures kit so my vote's for the SBD.

Howdy.
I've really been trying to work on doing more aircraft and I just happen to have this kit in the stash, so I think I'll give it a try..

Cool, the DC-4 and DC-6 are exceptionally sleek planes.
@Jessie: Very well. I simply need a little push one way or another. I'm kinda glad you suggested it. Not only would I like to do an early war navy blue gray, but I also have some add on bits for that kit. Besides, building several twins at a go may tax my ability to meet deadlines. With a single I think I can get it all done!
SBD-3 from USS Yorktown it is!
Cheers,
Fred

Aight, I'm in.
Just popped the lid for the first time since I picked this kit up a couple of years ago. It is really, really nice. Nice moulding, detailed instructions, Good transparencies. (I even found vinyl canopy masks in the bottom of the box!)
This should be good!
Cheers,
Fred

Well,
Thanks to Fred I had to pick up the Accurate Miniatures SBD-3 when I saw it at the hobby shop Today.
I don't think I will use it for this campaign I am still planning on building the Monogram C-47.
Cheers Rob.

Delbert, glad to see a DC-4 in here. That polished metal UA scheme will be very pleasing.
I would be doing a DC-4 but all mine are already in the Hanger Queen state -
