Now Enlisting - Overshadowed fighters

Didn't realize I hadn't enlisted. Fixed that. Just picked up a P-35, but I think I'll stick with the P-63...

Just a reminder here, but there's still no ribbon loaded for this campaign. Always a good idea to have a flashy ribbon, it can drive enlistment!

How about using one of those old CIA pictures of the Soviet's latest super fighters. So grainy that no detail would be lost even at 50 x 30 or whatever...

Would a Spanish He112 qualify? Not a participant nation but one did put down an errant P38 over Morocco.

Re: Ribbon - check out Pg. 4 of this thread for proposed ribbon.
I'll look into sending it to the powers that be so it can be added to the list of upcoming GB's. I've been very busy this spring. Among other things I'm building a home-build trailer for camping)

I think a Romanian He 112 would qualify, because they were used against the Russians in Operation Barbarossa.
Not sure about a Spanish one, Spain was officially a non-belligerent state in WW2. That being said, If you can't get Romanian markings, a Spanish one would be OK because while it didn't did shoot down a P-38, it did force it down. I think Spain also used the HE 112 as patrol aircraft against Allied as well as Axis craft, although they sympathized with the Axis cause.
BTW - The HE 112 is a very smart looking aircraft. Remember I have asked that each entry have a short history of the aircraft. I want to be as inclusive as possible.

I have revised the campaign ribbon to conform to GB requirements re: file size. Originally I wanted the silhouette against a setting sun, now is the same but in black and white.
See the campaign page for the ribbon.

Hi, all
I would love to get involved in this campaign, I think I have a Boulton Paul Defiant and a Fairy Firefly somewhere, failing that I might go with a Sea Gladiator from the seige of Malta

A new 1/48 scale Westland Whirlwind kit has been released by Trumpeter. This is a perfect subject for this Group Buld.

The"Overshadowed Fighters of WW2" campaign will begin in October. Here is a link to the air campaign page.
I will be building an Avia B534 series III aircraft which partook in the invasion of Poland in September 1939. The kit is an Eduard's 1/48 scale, and it looks to be superb. I hope I can do it justice.

Okay I think I'll participate on this one too. Looking at the stash there are quite a few to choose from but I think I might take the opportunity to find something really interesting, but who knows where I'll eventually end up??

I'm going with a 1/48 P-400; either Eduard's LE Air-a-cutie kit or their standard P-39 kit done in camouflage as "The Flaming Arrow".

Thank you!
I noticed you are doing a PBJ of VMB-611, why did you pick that subject for a build?

I was looking for something different to do with my B-25 and came across Osprey's book on the Marine PBJ units. The differences in aircraft setup, armament and mission types from unit to unit was really interesting to me so I decided to build one.

My Father in Law, who passed several years ago, served with VMB-614, that's why I asked. I have been slowly working on a PBJ from his unit.
I look forward to seeing your model.

Hi there
Wow! Are we nearly there already!? I'll definitely have to find some time for this one somehow or other!
What to build? - there are just so many wonderful subjects to choose between!
All the best

You're right, there are a lot of subjects to choose from.
The campaign runs from October 1st, that's next Wednesday, to April 1st, 2015.
I've been doing lots of research on my subject, the Czech Avia B534, and learning a lot about WW2 from the invasion of Poland in September of 1939, to the Slovak Uprising of 1944.
Rick.

Well, it's October 1 in Old Blighty, so I am declaring this campaign open! I will now lock this thread. From now on, all posts regarding the Overshadowed Fighters of WWII should be made in the official thread which can be found here.
Looking forward to some great, interesting builds!
