Hmm, a little drama, eh?

I'll try it out, although my skill with Photoshop is limited.

Can you recognize the aircraft?

Correct.

the idea was to hide the identity. I chose it because like you, all Japanese planes were Zero's to me.

Here are two permutations of the draft banner.

The first is a little darker image, the second a little more washed out.

Richard,
I think I like the darker image of the two. I hope this campaign proposal isn't dying a slow death, it's a good idea. I'd like to build for this one.
Take care,

I haven't heard one way or the other. There is a minor reorg taking place here at Aeroscale, so we'll just have to sit tight and wait patiently.

In my humble opinion how can a fighter they produced 2500 of be considered overlooked?

Thinking of it another way, the underlying idea is that this GB would be for aircraft overlooked as modelling subjects, or overshadowed in the general public' s consciousness by more famous aircraft.

Yes. We moved away from the "allowed builds" list to a "not allowed" list which is much shorter. Anything that isn't on the "not allowed" list is a candidate

[quote]I guess that settles it then.

On the exclusion list -

Luftwaffe
Bf 109
Bf 110
Fw 190
Me 262

RAF
Hurricane
Mosquito
Spitfire
Typhoon

USAAF
Mustang
Lightning
Thunderbolt
Warhawk

US Navy
Corsair
Hellcat
Wildcat

USSR
La-3 - La-5
Yak 1-9

Japan

So will this be the NOT allowed list?
With this list the Campaign title should be:-
Overshadowed Fighters of WWII
Or we might open up a bigger list?
I hope we get the OK soon!

It is interesting that the builds permitted are overshadowed because other aircraft produced by that nation had a better reputation or the producing nation never got it right. So permitted builds are anything Italian, French, Dutch, Polish, most Japanese and Australian plus anything that was less successful from the other participating nations. That does not mean was overshadowed in performance, ability or quantity. The Macchi 205 and Mitsubishi Raiden were superb, the Polikarpov I-16 and P-39 were produced in huge numbers, many of these will have been obsolescent by the time they were used, like the Fiat and Gloster biplanes and some plain mis concieved like the Brewster Buffalo, Defiant, Roc, Me-163 or Salamander. This could lead to the most varied campaign since the Lottery. Looking forward to it.

That's not what he meant by overshadowed... read the reply to my post above.

Yeah, I know, but the reason the model manufacturers produce so many of the Forbidden list is because they are the successful, sexy ones and the ones we modellers most buy. Almost by definition the campaign will concentrate on the less successful aircraft, those less well known despite their often good qualities. My sources indicate that Bell made almost 9500 P-39s, only 3330 Typhoons were built, both are good looking, both good fighters in the right hands, both flawed yet the Typhoon sells enough kits to be on the list the P-39 doesn't. Fame is capricious. Could it be that the Typhoon operated in Europe and it's effect was demonstrated at Falaise, most P-39 combat was on the Eastern front, away from the Western press?
I have built seven WW2 fighters over the last 5 years, 3 on the list (Spitfire 1, Hurricane, Yak-3), the others, CR42, I-15, Tempest, P-61, bring the campaign on, keep the list, there are plenty of great subjects left.

Well, thanks for your patience everyone. This campaign is now approved. Dates are Oct. 1, 2014 through April 1, 2015. You can sign up here. It sounds like a great campaign and I look forward to seeing the interesting builds!

So true, I can recall a time in the late 70's, when you went to anyone's ad in Fine Scale Modeler, almost every plane listed was an F-4 Phantom II of some mark, mostly only varying by decal options. Were were luck to even find the occasional Bf-109, FW-190 or Zero, let alone any Allied aircraft.

I must be an odd one out here as I have built very few of these 'popular' kits over the years..
