You can add my name to the list although my track record for finishing a campaign of late is not good, although I've been without a bench for several months.
A 'few' Italian aircraft in the stash! Although if it's allowed I'd like to do the Martin-Baker MB-5, first flight May 44.

If the MB-5 is not allowed I'll go for the rare of the overshadowed and build the Caproni Vizzola F.4 only one built and used by 303 Squadriglia in the defense of Roma.

I found a crack in the matrix, the serial number supplied with my P-63 falls between two groups of planes sent to the USSR. No record of where the missing planes went, even if the even money is on the USSR, I'll claim they went to the USAAF and use the S/N decal along with star and bar insignia.

Judging by the previous posts the aircraft had to be operational, I was looking at the Miles M20 but it was never operational, and I don't think the MB-5 was either. Shame. currently thinking along Me-163 or He-162 lines or if I can acquire a Cr-32 or a Glad in 1/48, they would fit in with my general current build theme of 1930s transitional aircraft and go nicely with my Cr-42, I-15, and Fury. I already decided I need an He-51, Polikarpov I-16, Mitsubishi A5M, Boeing P-26, Curtis P-36, Fokker DXXI, and PZL P11 in addition to the above. I suppose any of those would do except possibly the HE-51 and the P-26

OK so the question to Richard is can I do the Caproni Vizzola F.4 as only one was ever built but it was used by 303 Squadriglia in the defense of Roma 1943.
If not I'll dig out one of the more 'common' Italians, Mc.205, Re.2005 or G.55

I'm gonna break away from my usual armor builds for this GB. I propose to do a Chinese version of the Boeing P-26C. I haven't decided on scale yet but probably will be in 1/32

Sorry folks, I've been busy house paintings I've let this slide a bit. (My daughter is getting married in November, and the reception is at our house)
The GB is not official yet, and it probably won't begin until the middle of 2014.
I'll get back to you about your questions and concerns in the next several days. I want to finish the house painting by Friday, so I'll be able to look at this then.
I'm pleased that so many are interested.
I also don't want to exclude any subjects without serious thought.
Regards, Richard B.

The Caproni Vizzola F 4 was operational, so it would fall into the same category as the P-80, therefore WOULD be eligible for this GB.
As for the Martin-Baker MB 5, it never became operational. By accounts it was a superb aircraft and would have been spectacular in WW2 and in Korea, too bad. To be eligible for this GB, an aircraft needed to have been operational. This aircraft WOULD NOT be eligible for this GB, unfortunately.
(Maybe a future GB theme could be. 'What Might have Been'. The MB-5, Supermarine Spiteful, the BAC TSR2, and Avro Arrow would be great subjects.)
These two aircraft and the F-82, and the P-80 are subjects that are the border line of eligibility. In these cases, I've drawn the line on whether they were assigned to an operational unit.

OK thank you Richard, so the Caproni Vizzola F 4 it is.

Howdy Y'all:
@Richard-both mottos sound good to me. Got a banner in mind?
I'm in if I'm not moving to new job next year. I hope to build a P-36A, F-2A, I-16, Mig 3, Ki-27 or He-162. I think those all qualify. Any suggestions for a D-Day fighter? My club will have a D-Day contest next year.
Take care,
Don "Lakota"

I have come up with a potential ribbon, but a banner, not yet. Got any ideas?
I'm not a ww2 aviation expert by any means. A D-Day fighter? Hmm.
I'll have to research this.
Later.....
A Hawker Tempest would qualify, the Typhoon would not.
As for a ribbon, I have a black silhouette of a Nakajima Ki-84 Hayate (Frank) against a background of a sunset. I'll post it as soon as I review how to post images.

I notice that almost all nightfighters are allowed, so for D-Day P-61, Beaufighter, Heinkel 219, Ju-88 are all possible, Tempest and Meteor were both operational but not over the beaches, same for the Fulmar. This might be a difficult mix of projects as most of the types used over the beaches are on the banned list but a way out could be a nightfighter. Personally I'm waiting until nearer the start date, and see what turns up.

Here is my proposal for the design of a ribbon for this Group Build (enlarged for easy viewing)
It is the silhouette of a Nakajima Ki-84 Hayate fighter against a background of a setting sun - the image, other than the silhouette, blotted out by the light.
http://www.militaryfactory.com/aircraft/detail.asp?aircraft_id=564
The actual ribbon will be 50 pixels wide by 20 pixels tall and be 4K in size.

I have a Swiss MS410, Finnish Buffalo and Soviet Lagg-5 on the shelf that would make good subjects.

Nil illigitimi carborundum
Translation-
Don't let the bastards grind you down.
From Wikipedia -
"The phrase originated during World War II. Lexicographer Eric Partridge attributes it to British army intelligence very early in the war (using the plural dative/ablative illegitimis). The phrase was adopted by US Army general "Vinegar" Joe Stillwell as his motto during the war.[1] It was later further popularized in the US by 1964 presidential candidate Barry Goldwater.
A wooden plaque bearing the phrase sits prominently on the desk of U.S. House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner."
I like it, given the historical context.
PS I found a correct REAL Latin wording ...
Noli nothis permittere te terere.
(Don't let the bastards wear you down). Nil illegitimi carborundum has a nicer ring, though.

Forget the D-Day plane, with a ribbon like that a Ki-84 definitely moves up on my list. Especially since I didn't originally consider it.
I think Jessica's idea is perfect. Go for it!

I read that it would be a good idea to design a banner for a GB. Below is a draft banner for the Overshadowed Fighters GB.

Maybe make the top half appear to be in shadow? Or perhaps the tail in the shadow and the nose coming out into the sunlight?
