Just picked this up for Russell 's campaign. Will try to attempt a dio base as that was something of a signature of his.

Totally did not hear about the passing of Russ. Very saddened to grind this out. While I never had the pleasure of getting to know Russ in person we chatted a few times here and he was always very kind and encouraging. Russ you will be missed. Godspeed.

I notice in the rules that a "completed model posed against a plain background" photo, I assume that a photo on a small dio would be appreciated as this seems to be a Russell trademark.

Can sound be added to a photo collection on Kit Maker? If so, may I suggest a slide show of the completed builds while Amazing Grace is played, on bagpipes of course.

Hi, Sam. Glad you're getting off the meadows to show us how its done. Your model's are always welcome. (psst... go ahead, take one of Tomcats).

@Andrew - Just don't want to see a cluttered workbench distracting from the focus of a nice model. Diorama scenics are OK.

I dunno, I'm just a dummy with some models. I'm going to keep this a standard issue campaign, though, with a possible 'Feature'. The trouble with music is that it dates quickly and not everyone likes it. Photos are more universal.

Richard, the Revell P-47 builds into a decent looking model. I did one a few years back.

I'll be in with a part started AMT Star Trek Vulcan Shuttle from TMP. I'll have to dig it out and check the box, but I do believe it is 1/72 scale.

That would be great. A piper played Amazing Grace with the pipes at his service.

This outpouring of tribute to my friend is wonderful!

I have an offer, which I have discussed with Russell's brother and sister. They are taking his built models; they asked me about the unbuilt ones, which they would like to go to where they will be appreciated and valued. Some of his kits are already going to local friends.

I offer that you look at his photos of his unbuilt models. If you would like one or two to build for this Memorial Campaign or later, PM me. The only stipulation is that I must ask for postage to send them.

I will not be able to send any until next week and will check PMs as able - out of town and lots to do the next few days.

I think it would be a really wonderful thing to see a few of Russell's own stash kits built in his memorial Campaign. I am moving house in the next few weeks, but if I can get things sorted and allocate the time I would be keen to stump up the shipping cost and try to do justice to a build as Russell would. It would truly be an honour.

Cheers, D

That is pretty close to a brilliant send off for an avid modeller!

I wonder if his family member were to have a PayPal account we could send them postage and handling to help defray the cost of getting the kits distributed?

I think its a wonderful idea, especially if some of those can be finished for the campaign. I would like to build one of Russell's models for the campaign, so I put my name in for the Viscount.

I agree.

That's a very nice idea, a great way to pay our tribute.

That is a pretty big stack but that JU 290 looks just ambitious enough that if Russell was anything like me he kept pushing off to the "I'll get to it when I'm up to it pile".

Maybe its time for it to be built.

I just read on here about Russell's passing and this is truly devastating to hear. Condolences to his friends and family. I would certainly like to join this campaign and have enlisted. My tentative entry will be a RoG 1/72 scale Lancaster from a RCAF unit;starter photo to follow.

Best wishes,

Ian

Dear Group,

Thank you all for your kind words and support.

Russell's family all live in different parts of the country and have asked me to look after some of his effects. While I do have a PayPal account and I'll do the packing and shipping.

I will not be able to start the process until next week. Honestly, despite all of the hard work to fast-track this tribute campaign, I apologize that I haven't seen what the start date is.

PM me with your kit request.

Pure teamwork in action. Of course it helps when there's big gun leverage.

March 01, 2014 is when we pull out the glue.

Well I've narrowed the choices in the stash down and I have decide that I will attempt the now out of production Special Hobby TR-1a

I chose this as it a cold war jet and also flew pretty close to the edge of space, I thought this was fitting given some of Russell interests.

I also think I have a set of the Airfix spacemen from the lunar lander kit so I'm going to adapt one of them to be the pilot stood next to the Aircraft on a simple base.

The more I reflect upon all this the more this idea resonates with me. In addition to modeling I've been a miniatures painter since childhood. In miniatures circles we joke that we cannot die so long as we have our "minis" pile to finish. The joke always masks the unspoken truth that in our hobbies as in life there are so many things to do and so little time. We know there will be things left unfinished before we go.
I know its only symbolic but I believe symbols are meaningful and shouldn't be discounted. Let's give Russell a hand finishing his stash. Getting those unfinished projects completed so he can rest easy.

Cheers,
Fred

Ahh, I wish you hadn't said that. Now I'm rethinking my whole approach. Should I work down my stash or his? If it's his, I'd like to try the Tamiya P-51 or one of the H-21s...
