Hi. With the premature loss of our AeroScale friend, 'Siderius', I'm going to propose a memorial campaign. Russell always seemed eager to help us, and I believe committing to a campaign in his honor is such a worthy tribute to his memory here on AeroScale.
I'm thinking 1/72nd anything at all. That seemed to be what Russell liked to build.
There's a long wait for campaigns, I know. But who dosen't want to remember a loyal comrade properly.

I'd certainly be up for this campaign and Sam has even said that she'll come out of of her modelling sabbatical for this as well.
As for the start date, you never know Michael may allow this to run this year as it would be special campaign but the choice would be up to him

Sad news. I did not know that Russell was not well. He's been such a staple here in the time I've been a forum member. 1/72 is not a scale I work in much but I would be more than happy to join in and participate.

Hi there
Count me in too. I'm sure we can bend the rules and fast-track a campaign in Russell's honour?
All the best

I'm in. Sidelining everything else for it.
I can never figure out the gallery. Is there a way to see his models all together on there? I sort of want to do an homage build.

I'm definitely going to be a part of this. I also third the call for fast-tracking.
Ben, here's Russel's gallery page, and here are links to all of his forum posts.

Including Samantha, I'm counting 8 interested after just 3-1/2 hrs. Two more, and the submission is getting sent to Micheal.
I can feel Russell's approval, especially with the interest shown by AeroScale's 'big guns'. Thankyou

OK folks. Russell's Memorial campaign proposal has been submitted. Now in wait for the powers to be.
Just short of 5hrs, start to submission on a SuperBowl Sunday. Russell has to be with us.

Hi Ben,
Thank you, this is a wonderful idea! This will mean a great deal to his family. Count me in.
I told his brother & sister that I would like to finish a couple models he had started, plus some that he was planning to build soon.
I look forward to this.

Fred, one of the rules I've submitted is that entries can be started. I believe Russell would have preferred that. To me, he seemed like the type who just really enjoyed modelling and was very proud of his work. He was no rivit counter, for sure.

Ribbon proposal #1. I tried to incorporate his userpic, but at the small size it was just a blob of pixels so I decided to go for simplicity.

Hi Jessie
I like the simplicity of the design, but I think Russell spelled his name with two "l"s.

Jessica, I mean't to ask if you'd help with a ribbon design.
I wondered what 'Siderius' mean't. As near as I can tell, its a latin world used with reference to starry. As in starry night.
Fred's writing has suggested that Russell's interests also included astronomy. I can only deduce that Russell's choice of forum handle had to do with the heavens.
Perhaps, aside from spelling his name right, we can come up with a starry idea.
I'd actually thought of using his photo in a ribbon. Just don't know if that would work.

The trouble with stars is at small scale they don't show up. Fixing the spelling is trivial; making stars show up at 50 pixels wide is something else entirely.

I agree, Jessica. Stars don't like small. And I tried working with the photo in Fred's post, with his permission. Unfortunately, Russell doesn't like small either.
Perhaps we can see if others like your idea. Its simple and has great color.

here is his user gallery
I didnt know him all that well, but his eclectic interests are interesting. WWII and cold war mostly but Star Trek is well represented.
Ill join up as well.
is there a goal to this campaign? are we going to give a grant to a museum or anything?
re banner/ribbon, to keep to the astronomy theme, perhaps an observatory dome would fit on a ribbon.
