Hi all
Applied three coats of the new formula Pledge Klear before adding the excellent Cartograf decals. I did use Microsol to help bed down the decals. I did ruin one decal that provides the white trim on the wheel spats. So I ended up masking and painting the area white.
Well I’m calling this project finished. This was an enjoyable build despite the hopeless instructions and the unfinished feel to the cockpit. It’s certainly whetted my appetite to do more Japanese WWII subjects.
Many thanks to Neil [RedwingNev] for running this excellent campaign. There are some great builds to be seen here on the campaign page and over in the gallery.

Did some building today. Quite impressed by the Airfix kit. Actually went together pretty nicely. No need for filler yet.

Got it all together today, still no filler. Airfix has done well with this one.
Not so sure about the white scheme, will have a look for an alternative.

Hi.
Finally found the time to get started on this kit. I'm not particularly knowledgeable about Japanese aircraft, but I've always had a soft spot for them aesthetically.

So far it's been going together really nicely. I'm a rookie at plane stuff (2nd build), but I've definitely caught the bug.
Added a little wiring to busy up the cockpit and cover a couple annoying imperfections. I also drilled out the holes on the seat. I have the base coat down on the cockpit, but no pics yet. Will update soon.

Cheers
Jeff

Hi again.
Trying really hard to stay on track with this kit since I've got way too many shelf queens going right now. On the upside the kit has been a lot of fun so it's been a joy to work on. Again not a real Japanese airplane buff so I just followed Hasegawa's colour call out.

Hoping I can get a gloss coat down tomorrow and do some washes plus chipping on Sunday to make it pop a little more. I just noticed I didn't paint the bottom of the boxes on the last photo, but I don't think anyone will see that after it's closed up. Since the seat lip prevented me from drilling out the bottom row of lightening holes, I'm considering trying to make a seat cushion out of green stuff to hide it before I install some RB belts.
Speaking of RB belts, has anyone used them before? Any general tips on using them?
Cheers
Jeff

Hello everyone,
Been absent but not idle.
Life commitments have taken a toll on my spare time, so modeling has been short.
Anyway here's how my Ki.43 is going...

Having serious fit problems with the resin cockpit floor (small wonder since it's meant for the Hasegawa kit, not Fine Mold) but am confident it will set in eventually.
Cheers

Yes. They're textile belts.

Hi again.
Quick update tonight.

Interior is about ready to go, just need to add a seat belt. Pretty happy with it considering it's my 2nd aircraft since I was a kid. I'm kind of annoyed at the instrument panel and seat. If I had to do it over again I might have sprung for the eduard interior set. But the cockpit looks so tight in the fuselage I don't think it'll show too much.
I also started the power plant. It looks better in person, I think the Alclad was a touch to shiny and throwing off the camera. That or it's a bad cameraman  . Took a crack at drilling out the tubes and running some ignition wires. I may paint the wires, but I kind of like the natural lead look. Hopefully I didn't start too dark before the weathering.

Thanks again for looking.
Cheers
Jeff

Really very nice, Jeff. Dry-brushing is something I've never done properly; looks like you have it well in hand. Well done.

Well, I'll certainly be following, Jonathan. I wonder if the Doyusha kit is a re-box of this YS-11.
