@ Frederick - F.M. Ki.43 comes with good surface detail having very thin wing and rudder trailing edges. The fit seems overall good minus some few joints but nothing that can't be dealt with ease.
The engine and cockpit detail could be better to be honest.
Decal sheet offers several colorful choices but no english or any other european language to guide. I will be using some of the decal, thou with the Hinomarus I'll go masking.
@ Torsten- Your Dinah is looking good. What camo will it sport, green or that brownish type?

Pedro, my Ki-46 will get IJA Grey (Tamiya XF-14) on the underside and this brown colour on the upper side, for which I'll use Revell 384, like on my Ki-84.

Not too worried about the cockpit as it's so sparse and not that visible. Fantasy colour scheme from me I'm afraid!
Silver overpainted with a couple of shades of grey / green, some details picked out red/yellow/black, drybrushed silver and an oil wash overall.
Not enamoured about the split control panel & having to cut the decal in half, so I've made a full width panel from heavy (port bottle :-) ) foil and applied the decal to that with a blob of Klear on the dials.

Been busy:
Detail is quite poor on this old Hasegawa kit, the fitting is good and the plastic is good too.
Let's see how this works.

I've been quite busy over the past few days, so here's the progress on my Ki-46:
IJA Grey XF-14 from Tamiya is on ....
.... the window on the fuselage is not needed and is sanded now and will be overpainted ....
.... a lot of masking with Tamiya and Kip Tape It took me 2 evenings ....
.... Brown 381 from Revell for the upperside is done ....
.... after demasking I noticed that here and there some paint went under the masks, so there's still some work to do. But slowly I can see the finish line. As you can see, the cannon broke off during masking but I saved it from the big evil carpet monster. It will be added in the final stage of building ....
Happy Easter everyone!

John it's stunning. Is that oob?
I completed principle assembly of the hayate. Slammed in the cockpit with minimal ceremony as I have no ip and it's generally bare as bones.
Progress shots to follow.

More like land of the rising fun campaign!
Here we go. The decals clearly won't do beyond stencils. So I created a primitive mask for the tail.
And miracle masks for the hinomarus!!
If I'd had the wherewithal to go upstairs for qtips for burnishing they'd be perfect. There's a hair of fuzz on some edges but they still win the day. Also should have gone red then white, not the other way around...

Nicely done with the masked markings Richard

Torsten - Dinah is looking sexy
John - cockpit looks great
Richard - great work on the masking. I hate masking, so you're a braver (and more talented) man than I!
I've hardly been able to get to my workbench in weeks. Really busy with home, work and church, and exhausted by 9pm and going to bed early
Hoping to make the time get some modelling done soon!

Thanks guys.
I realize now I really should have painted the fabric surfaces a dissimilar metallic BEFORE I masked. Damn. I'm reluctant to risk my new hinomarus so I think they shall remain the same as the airframe.

Or you could mask with post-it notes.

The hinomarus encroach on the ailerons so the only way really is to use the mask negatives for the sun and border. The sun disc negs are unused but the borders were pretty well spent after use.

Just a quick question when I opened the kit I was going to do I found the main components off the sprues and taped together for dry-fitting,if this is unacceptable I'll use something else. Phil

Phil if there's no gluing involved I don't think anyone could argue that kit is started.
John, that thing is enormous. I have a good deal of envy. My, zero could serve as hood ornament for yours.

Yes Richard it's big but it's a very basic kit. I don't think it would have too many more parts than yours.

I primed red oxide as nearly all zeros enjoyed this superb primer treatment.
Then pre-shaded.
Then the IJN grey/green.
Then the cowling. Which I really should have done before the undersurface.
