your Tiffy's beyond words mate!

Russ

That bad hey?
Thanks mate, I am pretty chuffed myself with the results. Still have the weathering to do so I can still stuff it up

Getting to the point of considering the next build: floaty or wing-thing? Or confuse everyone and dash over to the dark side

Hi John, thank you. Still the tricky part to do yet though: "it ain't over 'till the fat lady sings" etc. etc.

Hi Julian, i didn t notice at, while beeing completely blown
by the whole "thing" The chipping on the prop, fox example is
pure art !
The idea with the tail wheel is a good one, bringing more live
to the kit (not really necessary on you Tiffie)
Showed this morning my girlfriend your build, she was amazed too,so best wishes from this side

So far, so good! Reckon you'll hit a home run with the weathering mate!

The dark side hey? now we are all wondering what that could be...

PS there's always the hybrid wing thing/floaty: aka sea plane

September 30th update:
Weathering belly of the beast parts 1 and 2
First a burnt sienna wash followed by a lamp black wash.
When dry sealed in with gloss varnish.
Then a good sloppy slathering coat of Florry's weathering wash. No use being weak kneed here. Slap it on , let it dry and wipe the residue off with the make up sponges I "borrowed" from Mrs. Gremlin56, ( she kill me for this so might be the last update ):

P.s. this is not the final effect, just the start. Most Tiffies look unbelievably grungy after working for several weeks on makeshift airstrips in Normandy.

P.p.s. a couple of decals need some TLC. I have spotted that .......

Julian,
So far you weathering really looks quite good.

I'm just confused to the cause and effect steps you used. Burnt Sienna wash followed by a Lamp Black wash. Wouldn't the black wash just over power the lighter Burnt Sienna Wash?

I've been using the Flory Sludge washes for some time, and find them rather hard to remove evenly, leaving too much at times in crevasses, or areas I just can't get to comfortably.

I've slowly been going back to using a enamel oil wash (not artist oils), letting it set up, then rubbing it off gently with a dry cloth or paper towel. I follow that with a little dirty thinner on a semi dry brush for a final effect.

I too have paid the wrath of my loving wife for "borrowing" her makeup removal sponges. I've gotten around that issue by buying a package of various sizes and shapes at Walmart, our big box store.

Hi Joel,
no, in this case I wanted a dusty brown color on the white stripes before darkening the rivets, etc. I am happy with the result.
I quite like the Florry wash. I find I have more control than with an oil wash that I wipe off.
Of course these are all matters of personal preference Joel,
There is no single route to what a person considers his, (or hers, sorry Jessica), personal weathering Nirvana....
Mrs. Gremlin 56 killed me because of the sponges. This is the last update

Only kidding,

Hi Bernd, I met my wife when I was 15 and she was 13. I am now 58 years old and we are still together. I don't think stealing her make up sponges will trigger a divorce
The link, well, yes, that was a bit of lateral, out of the box etc. etc.

Julian,
So you used the Burnt Sienna and Black for different areas. Now it makes sense.

Sounds like you've known your wife nearly your whole life. My wife and I are nearly newlyweds compared to the two of you. I'm almost 67, and she's 63. We met 35 years ago, and were married 2 years later. My wife wouldn't divorce me over using her sponges, but the firing squad at dawn would be a distinct possibility

Hi Joel,
there seems to be a lot of different opinions on using sienna, burnt umber and black oils, either in combination or separately.
Seems to be a question of preference. In this case the white was very pristine and if you start with black oil over white stripes, well, I didn't feel happy with that.

Julian,
I have all three of those colors in enamel oils, but I generally save the Burnt Sienna and Raw Umber for the cockpit weathering. Will be giving you method a try.

A great little kit by Airfix-sea plane campaign perhaps?

Now, something very serious I need to ask Julian :

How did you change the title of your blog to remove the apostrophe so that it would issue email notifications of posts?

I think you could insert Jim S. instead of the music from the twilight zone. There was a rash of strange posts this week. Possibly they were working on that item.

Russ,
Darren Baker did. He's the Admin on Armorama. We've been having quite a debate/discussion on notifications, and he removed the apostrophe. So now those notifications work.

October 2nd update:
Florry washes finished. A dry fit of the canopy, the windscreen is too far forward. After painting I will fix it with Gator Grip Glue.
Now on to streaking and chipping and staining:

Julian,
Looking really good. I love the overall picture from the tail, as one really gets a sense of the massive size of the Typhoon.
