I read somewhere that there's a resin canopy available for this kit now due to shortcomings with the kit part - any idea what the shortcomings are?

Good morning Julian, your weathering looks really good, everything is popping out.
The surface, Airfix has created looks like a new step in moulding progress.
Well done !

Julian,
Looking really good. I love the overall picture from the tail, as one really gets a sense of the massive size of the Typhoon.
Joel
Hi Joel, Thank you very much. It really is huge, just wondering where I am going to park this beast when its finished

Hi Kevin,
yes, I jumped ship to build this wing-thing on Aeroscale and a very nice experience it is turning out to be. The Monica thing? Yes, well, I'll leave you to figure that out First heard that name used in conjunction with the JSF with the big goofy grin-like intake scoop. I'll let you take over from here

Hi Matt, yes, there has been a lot static about the canopy.
The windscreen is perfect, the problem is with the sliding part:
On top there is a dimple in plastic and the big lug at the front that is still fitted seems to cause tension in the very thin plastic producing a miniscule fracture. I checked the canopy when my kit arrived and there was no fracture then. Sometime since it has fractured causing a tiny hairline on the extreme front of the canopy. Is it a problem? No, I dipped the parts in future and you can now hardly seen the fracture. I would consider the dimple a bigger problem. This canopy is extremely thin though giving an excellent view of what is underneath so I will be using it. The resin canopy is thicker so there is no problem with the tension issue of the Airfix canopy, but it does have a weird appearance IMHO. Once again a question of personal choice. I do think the issue was made bigger than necessary though, you can hardly see the fracture

Hi Bernd,
Thank you, this was a scary part of the build, slathering the clay wash all over the Typhoon
It wiped off nicely though and after a coat of matt varnish the effect was good. Airfix did a great job on the skin of the aircraft, definitely a quantum leap for model detailing.

Hi Julian, weathering a beautiful looking kit is not easy, but your bird come out great.
I hope other brands will be inspired about this kit, the newer
recessed panel lines are sometimes not more accurate, than the raised ones.
Great Work !

Hi Mal,
you are keeping us in suspense here
I am very curious how the rocket launch will look.
What do you use for undercoat? I am a great fan of the Vallejo acrylic undercoat and they have a great selection of colors now as well.

King Tiger? Not the 1/18th version
No problem with the photos, I would consider it an honor in view of the level of work the Grey Wolves produce

Julian,
The rockets look really quite good. Right now we're looking directly at them in a scale larger then 1:1. Once the scale size decreases to 1:1 and they're installed on the Typhoon, I really don't think that their will be much of an issue, as they won't be the center of our focus.

Hi Joel,
that's right, eyeball mk.1 they look fine but with the Nikon macro lens they wobble. The bigger the zoom the bigger the warts

The Skyray was one of the most aesthetically pleasing aircraft ever built IMHO so why not?
It was also one of the first models I built , so I'm biased
Lookng better every day ( the Typhoon) by the way.

your right, why not a Skyray. Everyone has their own favorites of course.

October 5th update:
Nearly there, antenna fitted, weathering still underway:
Mal jogged my memory by mentioning Parafilm for masking the canopy so after a good rummage around on the shelves above my workbench I found a very heavy and very dusty roll of Parafilm. It works amazingly well I must say, (ordered it from the US of A and then forgot all about it ).
