Hi Jesica.
I hope that we see some NASA builds.

This will be my entry for this Campaign, the Accurate Miniatures 1/48th scale F2G Super Corsair. This kit has some sentimental value for me because I had the privilege of getting tasked to build the box art model for this kit, by the late Thomas Myers of Accurate Miniatures, in the early 2000's. "Race 18", in the '49 grey and white livery, was the scheme used for the box art model. My wife actually has that one sitting in her office now. For the campaign, I will depict the Super Corsair in the other scheme provided in the kit which is Race 18 in the Sea Blue and Orange scheme from the '47 Cleveland Air Races. This incarnation of Race 18 will have the short carb intake and the full size vertical stab. Anyway, looking forward to the campaign and lots of great civil projects.

Thanks, Jim and Richard. It's a shame the Super Corsair never really evolved. It just got out-performed by the Bearcat. You wouldn't have thought it would have come out under-powered with that huge "corn-cob" power plant.

Well, you're going to have to care about one small thing: If you build it out of the box, it'll sit twisted on your table. The solution is to cut the wing section out of the rest of the fuselage, and then glue the nose and tail back on just slightly off-centre so the wings sit at 90 degrees to the tail and cockpit. I think it sits right wing low if you build it from the box. The wing mounts were not moulded level!

Jessica I have just done a rough measure on the wing location and there is at least 0.025" difference in height! that would explain the wing dip.
There was no mention of this in reviews that I read only the shape was mentioned.

Well, I began work on the Accurate Miniatures Super Corsair. I actually started with the wing assembly first. The fit is not bad for a limited run kit but there is no parts map so careful test fitting is required to get everything fitted right. The wheel bays were installed first:




I then installed the resin intakes with their photo-etch vents.



I then placed bits of sheet stock in the shell ejection chutes which will be faired over.


Look ma!!! No guns!!!! The machine gun ports were then filled with Tamiya putty. The fit of the intake vents was not particularly good so I will get those sanded and blended next.





I will get the wing section cleaned up and then move on to the cockpit.

This model has issues
The wing tabs send the wings up in a step angle.



These will be removed!
I found plans on the net and did some trig on them.



And then my mind turned to a jig to set the wings at the correct angle.



As you will see there is a large gap to fill, also the wing root
sits to high and will be have to be lowered.

Richard, that is a helluva wing issue to contend with. Hopefully the jig will warp it back into submission. "UP THE IRONS"! Bruce and company are counting on you.

The cheat line is printed black instead of blue!
