Sanding the spinner using the Dremel is a GREAT idea thanks for the tip.

Fortunately the battery was weak at the time, so I didn't make a big mess while trying to only make a little mess.

Mark, the spinner looks good.
Posted: Tuesday, January 17, 2017 - 09:20 PM UTC
Might have learned a new skill today:
Glue up, fill and sand the spinner.
Prime the spinner (yellow stripe), propeller blades, exhaust manifolds and rear tire (made from rubbery material).
Paint the spinner and propeller tips yellow
Paint the wheels in Mr. Color Tyre
Paint propellers black
Paint exhausts rusty
Touch up interior green bits
Red stripes on spinner
Touch up canopy frame
Detail Radios
Install radios
Put instrument panel back in
Add pilot
Wire up antenna and canopy and glue in place
Assemble propeller
Add antenna
Glue up landing gear and install
install rear wheel
Install gear doors
Install exhaust
Add Decals
Install wing tanks
Declare victory?
OK, it's just how to strike out... well, no I didn't, it doesn't work on this site. 8^( but I did start to wire up the antenna for the radio.

I have been preparing an Otaki P-47 for paint and looked at the decal sheet then a day later a thought came to me re: the white for the cowl and ID stripes on the rudder/fin and stab. Would they be WHITE or maybe a little dingy? A drop of gray in the with could take some of the briteness.

Two steps forward, one step back. Got primer on the exhausts and tires repainted in Tyre. But the yellow for the spinner and prop tips was too thin and ran

annndddd done!
Leaving it in semi-gloss as it is a gift to a co-worker whose brother is a maintenance crewman on this particular aircraft.
Even in 1/72 it is a pretty big bird and is hard to get decent pictures of with the monotone paint scheme, the dark color and the semi-gloss finish.
and no, I did not go back after that glass to nose joint.
I have some other more involved projects to move on to, but I am glad this one is done!

Mike,
Congrats on getting your B-1 completed. It's nice to see another model completed. I didn't know the Monogram kit had problems with the nose/glass fit. I'm hoping the 1/48 kit doesn't have the same problems.
Take care,
Don "Lakota"

Don, It's a VERY simplified kit that barely approximates the updated versions. The wing box is super simplified, the tail to fuselage joint is abysmal and the canopy to fuselage fit is terrible. The bomb bay is crammed full of largely imaginary cruise missiles and does NOT have a more modern rotary launcher.
The fuselage has raised panel lines and the wings have recessed lines, top and bottom.
Surprisingly the landing gear is well engineered..
Over in the 'on the bench forum' on aircraft resource center there are some AMAZING silk purses made of this old sow's ear. But I did not have it in me. From 5 ft away, it looks like a B-1. And it has the markings for a bird my friend's brother maintained, so win all around.

Nice on Mike, hope your friend likes it!
Here are some starting pics of the 1/12 Atomic city Mercury. We were planning to go see Hidden Figures last night so I thought I'd better get started on it. (We did see the movie, btw. Good film, despite some clear changes to history for dramatic effect).
The astronaut isn't glued in yet, still lots of work to do on him. I added all those wires when I was originally working on it since you'll be able to see some of the back of the panel with the hatch off. So far putting lots more stripe decals on the retro pack and working on the figure (NOT my forte). We'll see!

Welcome aboard Mathew, Looksw like your HQs are further along than mine...
Knocked a few items off of my do do list. I guess I'm officially 1/3 of the way done, but it still fells like a long long way to go.

One step forward, 2 steps back. Got the radios in and wired up. Got one of the MLG in place. Then I started to mount the pilot, first the seat broke free and then I saw the instrument panel had fallen out of place.

That's the ticket. Just a few small steps add up. I've managed to knock off about half of my to do list. Still looks like a long way to go, but I think the end is in sight.

And just like that: My humble tribute to John Glenn, the Atomic City 1/12 Mercury spacecraft Friendship 7:
26.5 inches tall from retro package to tip of escape tower. A very nice kit that frankly requires some modeling experience since the instructions aren't always clear and it's sometimes tricky to figure out how things fit together. But I sure like the result!

Hi all,
I will join this Hangar Queen campaign as well, as I have a 1/144 MIG-21 from Eduard to finish.
The original thread can be found here:
unfinished Mig-21 business
And the last picture of that thread was this:
I am not sure why the build was stalled, but it deserves to be finished as the model is quite nice.

Jelger, You are right it does deserve to be finished and you've come to the right place. Welcome!
It is a nice looking little kit. I may have to re-examine my thoughts on the scale having previously thought them too small to be well detailed.
