I hit a bit of problem with the kit canopy - which turned out to be short shot during moulding .


Fortunately I found another 'blown' canopy in my bits box from another Airfix 190 - so major problem averted.

Also now I have the spiral on the spinner sorted - which took two attempts at hand painting to get this stage. Its not perfect - but its good enough for my eyes!

Spent a lot of today working with these shark mouth decals. If I had to do it all again I would have painted the cowlings held together by blue tack, and figured out how to assemble and decal with the exhaust stubs left off.

Why? I'm glad you asked. The shark mouth decals aren't pre- cut for the exhaust stubs. So, I had to guess, and ended up using paint to touch up afterwards.

The decals are deliciously thin but sturdy and respond well to Mr. Mark Softer.

I'm gonna be chiming in with this little gem: Airfix's 1/72 Typhoon, A02041!


I was watching Battle of Britain a few nights ago and was sorely tempted to do a Hurricane or Spitfire, but the Typhoon won in the end.

I've got a set of Eduard masks on order, but that will be the only AM I will use.

Hopefully I can finish the by the deadline!

Can anyone advise me how to dechrome the Airfix Bentley parts? This stuff should be used on fallout shelters. I have tried oven cleaner and dipped it in caustic soda but it doesn't shift.

Looks like method 2 with the hydrochloric acid might be your ticket.

They're very nice decals, Russ. Thin enough to lay down well, but thick enough to give you some play/fumble time. I'm gonna see what else they have next time I need decals for a kit.

Started cutting plastic last night on the Typhoon-hope to get to the paint shop soon and get some pics up.

Well, I've got this kit as far as my skill level is able to take it -so here are some pictures of the finished model:


I really enjoy these Airfix kits - but the new Humbrol Luftwaffe colours remain a compete nightmare (hence the use of Extracolor paints, which couldn't be nicer to use!)

I haven't forgotten this one. I got the turret masked and painted the green on the frames. I was hoping to figure out how to install the turret glass after assembly and painting, but it's an integral of how it mounts, so it has to go in first....

Actually followed the suggestion manual for once.
