That's the one Jean-Luc.

Surely this aircraft rivals the Spitfire for its beautiful lines and combat efficiency. :-)

Hi all!

Here is the next question: tell me the name of the civilian pilot who managed to land in Moscow without beeing even noticed by sovietic radars. Can you also tell me what plane he used for his "mission"?

Mathias Rust in a Cessna 172 in 1987.

Trying to make me feel old again? :-)

Hi Mike!

That's the right answer... 1987 wasn't that long ago... 20 years... 20 years already!?... how time passes by...

Your turn!

If nobody has a question I ask one.
What was the first aircraft type in the Hungarian Air Force that had a retractable landing gear? (It is not that difficult as you think).

Hi Gaborka!

Good you asked a question! Is the plane you are searching in the following list?

Heinkel He70
Messerschmitt Bf108
Reggiane R2000
Heinkel He112

Yes, if I don't take it very strictly.

Hmmm... very confusing... :-) ... ... I will make one proposition! If the answer is not good, I'll let someone else try to find out the right one...

I choose He112

It's been a close call...
It was the Heinkel He-170, also known as He-70K, because it had a WM-K14 radial engine instead of the original BMW. You can build it from the Matchbox He-70 kit. This plane was the first plane in Hungarian service with a retractable landing gear, and it was also the fastest aircraft in its time, first used in 1937, in the last year of the clandestine air force with civilian markings.

So as it was in your list originally, I accept. Congratulations!

Hi Gàbor!

Thanks for accepting my answer... I read the He 112 was also tested with a radial engine... like the He 70. I know the Matchbox kit (now Revell) but it was one of the few that I didn't build... it was one of their last kits before ending production... Aaahh the Matchbox days...

Here's the next one, simple: tell me the name of that plane?

I'll zoom out* if you don't find the answer...

Ahoy!
It looks like a Junkers Ju-88. Am I right?
Anyway,

Uhh, than it must be either a Lavochkin La-5 or a La-7, I think.

Haha, I had built several of them as the KP Lavochkin kits cost pennies when I was a kid.

My question:

What type of aircraft did the Spanish Escuadrilla Azul fly during its 5th - last - "expedición" in the Eastern Front?

It is easy, isn't it. !

Sorry, no. They did fly it, though, but only during their 4th expedition to Russia - between 5th July and 23rd November of 1943.

So, next try!

I'll make a non-Googled guess: HE-112?

Ahoy!

The correct answer is the FW-190, and notably the A5 and a few A8s.

During their last tour the Escuadrilla got a different commission than their earlier role as fighters, and so they received new aircraft to fit to their new task as ground-attack/fighter bombers.

Okay, next turn is yours!

Hi all!

In 1938, a French general made a visit in Germany to see the latest Luftwaffe planes (Bf 109, He 111, He 100 etc)... needless to say he was impressed!
What was the name of that general and what plane did he used to fly from France to Germany?

Hello Jean-Luc,

Was it General Joseph Vuillemin who flew the Amiot 340 prototype bomber to Germany?

Hi David!

That's correct... Vuillemin wanted to fool the Germans with that plane... and the Germans made him believe the He100 was mass produced! Even this "propaganda war" was won by the nazis... they must have been very confident to let a French General visit their Bf 109 and He 111 factories just before the outbreak of war!

Your turn David

Thanks Jean-Luc. As I recall they made them believe that the He-112 are in front line service also.

Here's my question...

This is a weapon designed by the Luftwaffe in WWII and the installation was known as "Crab Device" or "Krebsgerat" by the crew. What is this weapon?
