Well, you gotta start somewhere. There were pictures of the Wehrmacht practicing marching with shovels. Early in WWII, the Army Air Corps trained aerial gunners by mounting a shotgun on the back of a pickup truck and having trainees shoot clay pigeons as the truck moved along a road....
Well back to my coffee and watching the rain in Portland.

Well, I look in and the lights are off and it's dark and dusty. Guess I'll have to check things out. At least the lights work! Gee, the fridges are empty. Man, I'd better dust and sweep and clean off the cobwebs.
Where is everyone ?

I wondered what that smell was! I looked, but someone hid the milk too well!
Hmm, time for a trip to the store. I've been on holiday/vacation, too.
Have to make a quick trip to Illinois next weekend to see a friend of mine (in his mid-60s) who will pass soon from kidney failure and cancer. Hopefully, I can brighten his day a bit. Or at least ease things a bit...
Happy belated 4th of July to all Americans. Sorry I missed Canada's Birthday-hope all our Canadian friends had a great day!

Not the milk its the Limburger cheese, someone ordered a 100 lbs block.

That wasn't me, I don't do Limburger. OTOH the bread does have some little green spots that smell like a brewery. How's about a Harp over here?

The front door opens quietly. The place is a bit dusty but a good cleaning is in order. And the cleaning crew will be here in about 15 minutes. The supply truck should be here in about two hours. Cobwebs over there in Terri's old corner. It needs a good coat of paint - maybe a nice sanding back down to the wood to get rid of the pink overcoat.
Have them clean the windows reseal the floors have to get ready for the holidays. Some new pots and pans and flatware. Sanding down the rear deck and then a repair on the barbeque pit. The new flat screens are in and the computer terminals have to finish being installed. Not a lot of people around because of summer vacations and personal activities, so its been easy to do some updating. Better not toss out this bush hat. Somebody's going to want it. Now that we'll be having drafts on tap I may have to hire a real "tar bender".
Lets see the first party will be for the end of summer and we'll need some late night films. Now to go plan the menu. Work, work, work. . .

Hmmm, "Kelly's Heroes", "Patton", "M*A*S*H", "The Longest Day", "Catch 22", " A Bridge Too Far", can't make up my mind.
And it's even worse in the beverage department, a Scottish ale or the 30yo single malt.
And don't even ask me about colors, I think that was the same pink that Terri painted Damian's toes....

The bevvy is easy, 30 yr old Malt and a pint (20fl ozs of course) chaser of Dunbar's finest ale. To the films add The Caine Mutiny, The Cruel Sea, Away all Boats, Operation Petticoat and Mister Roberts and for a touch of good comedy The Mouse that Roared. A nautical batch I know but I spent too many years scratch building ships not to appreciate them.
What's on the menu Stephen?

Mr Surfacer, white primer, 3 coats of Pink, 2 coats of Future, my toenails have never looked better. I suspect they will stay that colour for quite a while as well, I can't get this @#$%^& off !!!

I just finish cleaning up the joint and look who blows in! Everyone! Alright who's in the kitchen? I have some steaks and baked potatoes cooking up. Grilled ears of corn and greek pasta N salad. Potato salad and devilled eggs.
A couple of days ago truck dropped off some Canadian 6% beer. . .wait isn't that bootlegging if we . . .never mind. Wait a minute there are women's size 6 cowboy boot prints on the bar. . .the whole length of the bar. I smell fresh paint coming from the back deck area. . .Is that the disco ball floating in the lake outback?
I need some coffee. Who left this big fish on the bar. Damian is this yours? Looks like were back in business for the coming months. Strawberry shortcakes in the fridge.
For movies we get medival. "Knights Tale", "Highlander" (I) and "Excalibur".

Clean it and they will come!
Put me down for the steak, loaded potato and corn on the cob, the Greek salad and a sweet iced tea. Bring me some of that Canadian moose juice for starters.
