Does that mean there is only 202 days left til the start of the build??!!!
I already have my 1/32 T-Bolt and extra goodies already and it keeps beckoning me to open her up and start.
Must resisit the temptation though...

202 days left before the start? That´s good. It seems like I've been too eager here, so I got three campaigns to finish beforee the Jug. Soon I'm going to look like Jesper - in everywhere
Anyway, I got a Tam 1:48 P 47 D without dorsal fin Yesterday, and it's Megahugeomungus! I mean, I can stick a Bf 109 fuselage in it, and still have room for the cockpit. I have no idea what to make of it, because I don't want to make a full metal plane. I found a cute little pic on the net, though.
It has checkers, it has D-day stripes, it has colour on the rudder and nobody can tell (until I get the full story of the plane by Nigel
) if it had a grey, blue or NFM belly. That way I can try NMF without it being too visible afterwards.

Hi All
16 participants enlisted as of today
Tony, Ive answered your question in the SIG, so it keeps all the reference stuff in one place.
Please ask any questions in the SIG everyone
Dont forget, im not the only person who can answer them
Interesting to see how many people are opting for the 1:32 T'bolts!
Is this because of the build being scheduled for a full 12 months?

I may be in if I can find the Platz or Sweet T'bolts in 1/144 but then again if I can find the decals I may be tempted to do a post war Italian P-47N in 1/72, but these where not liked by the Italians as they thought them to heavy.
Ciao

Hi Luciano, welcome on board.
If you thought the Italians were unhappy about the size and weight of the P-47 spare a thought for the Eagle Squadron pilots who had to hand over their Spitfires when they became the nucleus of the 4th Fighter Group

I picked mine for a couple reasons.
First was I noticed at Squadron some of the 1/48 Tamiyas( about $40.00) were almost the same price as the 1/32 Hasegawa. (About $54.00 )USD
Second was the year build time this also allowed for an AM cockpit set. Not that there is anything wrong with the kit one except there is no corrigated floor in it.
Third and most important the Nekkid Lady nose art is BIGGER in 1/32 than 1/48.
Seriously though for me it was the cost thing. If a 1/48th tamiya is about the same as a 1/32nd Hasegawa why not get a bigger bang for your buck.

You certainly do get a lot of cowling space for your money on the 1:32 Thunderbolts!
Eduard released an exterior and an interior PE set. The corrugated cockpit floor issue is address by the interior set.
Theres a review of them

All Signed up.
Not sure which P-47 nor the scale, as there are a few 1/72 & 1/48 scale kits in the stash.
Plus Sky Models 1/72 scale P-47 set and Eaglecals 'Little Chief', i.e. Col. Frank Klibbe's aircraft set.

Welcome onboard Eric.
There are some nice early versions of "Little Chief". It would be great to see Frank Kilbbes T'bolt represented.
Did you see the "then and now" photo I did of Little Chiefs hardstanding at Halesworth in the SIG?
@Kelly
Oh thanks!, twist the knife a bit more why dont you?,,
Thats what it looks like is it?,,you sure it didnt have my name and address on the box?
Very nice
Now put it back in the box and no peeking until Jan 1st!

Nige,
I used to live in Colorado, and I didn't put
THAT zip code on the package.
Perhaps in twenty years or so when it is truly a rare kit it will show up at your Mum's house.

Hi Chuck.
Im sure it'll turn up one day
More than likely it will be the day after I spot it at a show and decide to buy it!
That wont be a problem though, as it was fitted with two different propellors during trials so I can build them both.

Nigel thanks for the welcome and yes, I saw the piece (very good) and build, hard to imagine standing where they prepared for their missions. The build will probably end up on a hardstand base.
The EagleCals has a follow up photo, aircraft in the same position, just Crew Chief Sgt Peter Meder has moved closer to the fuselage and the hardstand number is clearer. A rough date for that photo is about February 1944.
Sky Models decals has quite a few of 56th FG aircraft incl those for Johnson, Vogt and Eagleston.

You know it could be worse. The package could have had your address on it but I was paid to not tell you. Not that anything like that would have happened..
By the way that was in Euros right???

Id like to see the Little Chief photo
Whats the decal sheet number, and which Johnson is depicted.(there were three Johnsons in the 56th FG.) Is the Vogt artwork Louisiana Pirate?,,great nose art!
I presume you mean Glenn Eagleston, who flew with the 354th FG.
Kelly,,havent you got broken airplanes to go and fix or something?

Sorry my bad, Eagleston’s should have been separate.
It’s Gerald/Gerry Johnson IIRC first ace of the 56th FG. I was hoping for Robert Johnson’s ‘Lucky'.
“Louisiana Pirate - New Orleans” was Landry’s Plane, from the little I could deduce Vogt shared this plane somehow with Landry for a bit. His plane was “Lucky Little Devil” not sure if this changed when he went to 356th FG.
While trying to clarify this point I happened upon this link:
http://www.littlefriends.co.uk/gallery.php?Group=56Still the noseart for “Louisiana Pirate - New Orleans” is really good.

Nice one Eric
The artwork for Louisiana Pirate is one of my favourite nose arts. I have some colour movie footage and its one of the nosearts featured, certainly very colourfull!
Ironically, its Robert Landry who is arguably responsible for the 56th sticking with P-47s. During his spell as CO of the 56th, while Zemke was back in the USA, the 56th were offered the new P-51, and Landry elected to stick with the proven Thunderbolt. Zemke states in his book that he would have taken the Mustangs if he'd been CO at that time.
Little Friends really is a fabulous website!
It lists 5 different P-47s as being used by John Vogt including "Louisiana Pirate"
His P-47 with 360th FS is listed as being 42-26553 PI-V "Jersey Mosquito"

Sorry Nigel I missed this part. The decal sheet is 72-050, I'm ordering one of the 48 scale ones for Academy's P-47N (naturally will have to by more P-47 for the other decals).
Actually so far I've tracked five Johnsons in the 56th FG:
Robert S. Johnson
Gerald W. Johnson
Ralph A. Johnson
and the lesser known
Richard H. Johnson
Willard D. Johnson
