Hi guys, I have a few Jug kits in various scales but right now I think I will be in with my VFS 1/24 scale one...
If they happen to release their razorback version before the start, even better.

Cheers

Hi Tony.
I doubt you'll be seeing the VFS Razorback quite just yet, as they have only just recieved the blueprints
Looks like it'll be the Bubbletop

Still plenty of time before the Cave Tonitrum group build starts and so far there are 31 entrants registered. I wonder if it will reach the magic 47 entries?
Look out for some very interesting developments regarding the P-47 Special Interest Group to coincide with the start of this campaign

I took the plunge. I have several Jugs but non complete. I have to find something colorful, but not as crazy as the spotted cow.

I'm sure with a year to do it in, the 31 of us could manage to get 47 T'bolts built I'm certainly hoping to do at least two.

Count on only 50% completion rate though... as far as i can tell that is pretty consistant, only about 1/2 the people signed up manage to finish the build.

50% wouldnt be a bad completion rate, and the campaign is also going to be running over a 12 month period which gives me plenty of time to hassle people
Theres the added incentive of a very special Aeroscale P-47.....................whoops,,,cant say too much about that just yet
But for today, as if any further incentive is needed to join the Cave Conitrum group build for 2009, allow me to present ,courtesy of Allen Berry ( Tomcat 31) ,the campaign ribbon!

Thanks Allen!

OK i've signed up for this one in memory of my first ever model kit- which was a Revell 1/72 Thunderbolt sometime back in the 70's. I've never built another P-47 since, so i hope to do a better job than the first one.

I just need to buy a kit now, no P-47's in the stash. Sorry but it will probably be a dull OOB build with kit decals...

I've designed a couple of banners for this campaign. I hope you like them.

Hopefully there will be some more to follow (when I get a few spare minutes).

Jesper,

As a matter of interest just how bad are the decals? Decals are not really my strong point, (I'm just trying to think what my strong points are!) are they poor by the aircraft they depict or poor quality? Anyhoo, Should i go for aftermarket decals?

Thanks,

Victor

Victor, sorry for the late reply. As Nige has already pointed out the quality of the decals are very bad. I think your decision to go for aftermarket decals is the right one.

I am now starting to gear up for this campaign. I just received some of the Kagero books on the P-47. Unfortunently the Vol. I is out of print, but I got vol. II, III, and IV. I also got a Hasegawa P-47 Razorback with very cool decal options.

Since this is a long campaign I might go for either setting it in a diorama or building a second entry. If I go for the second entry it should be an unusual camouflage or unusual markings or both. I will start my research

I have just enlisted. I have the 1/48 Academy P-47N. I hope the decals are not as poor as you all have noted, as I wanted to build this specific aircraft. I guess time will tell. If there are any specific suggestions from those who have used Academy decals successfully, I'd appreciate hearing them.

I've decided to amend my planned build for this one. I visited the London Hannants 2 days ago and couldn't help picking up a nice P-47D Eagle Strike decal sheet, American Jabos Pt.IV.

So now i'll be doing an OOB build without kit decals. I'll be doing "Yankee Tarheel" of the 510FS,405 FG if i get get a Razor Back kit, or for a bubble top i'd do "Tallahassee Lassie".

Just to remind everyone involved in this campaign, it will be hosted on the new SIG site for the P-47, which is here: http://p47.kitmaker.net

Same login as AeroScale. In fact if you are logged in at 'aeroscale.kitmaker.net' you are logged in on the SIG site.

Blogs and in-progress work can be posted in the Build Blogs & Campaigns forum. There is a special group setup for this campaign as well.

Cheers,
Jim

As Jim said, this campaign is now based on the new Aeroscale site dedicated to the P-47.
P.47.KITMAKER.NET
There is a build blog forum to use for recording your builds, and as soon as my Aces High Campaign has finished I will be starting a Cave Tonitrum pre campaign thread.
So far we have 40 entrants in the campaign.
You can add your name to the growing list of P-47 builders HERE

Hi Nigel
Long time no see pal. I signed up for this campaign a couple of weeks ago but then couldn't find it on the campaign page. I only get time to visit Aeroscale once a week or so, so I'm glad I finally found this thread.
Anyways, I'll be building the Tamiya P-47D in 1/48 (no surprise there). I have the SuperScale decal sheet to go with it. I'll be building Capt. Milt W. Thompsons plane from the 509th FS/ 405th FG. This is the "BALLS OUT" bird with a big black bull on the front fuselage.
Looking forward to getting involved in this campaign, and congrats on your new website!!

Hermon!
Its been a long time. Hope your well.
I look forward to seeing your build come together. Its all shaping up to be a great campaign.
As soon as Aces High is finished I'll be starting a pre campaign thread over on the p-47 website.

Howdy Y'all

I'm in with a Tamiya 1/48 P-47D Bubbletop I hope to finish in Don Smith's Ol' Cock III markings.

I also would like to a Tamiay 1/72 Razonback. Markings still to be determined but I'm leaning to a camoflauged bird with D-Day stripes. Probably Luft III If I had Wings.

I'm ready for some fun.
