Warren what mask are you using on the canopies?
Well after buying a BigEd set for an F4F-4 Wildcat and finding that the masks had no relation to the actual kit, I went back to my usual Tamiya tape and Xacto knife method. Works everytime and never any bleeding.
To make bleeding under the tape even less likely to occur, apply very light coats and build up the paint on the canopy. That way the paint can't run under the tape as it dries before it gets a chance to.
You may be right, I may be crazy.

Thanks friend, you have a new member on board!. I have read that the aicraft of the "Home defense, Germany 1944" were involved in combats during day and night. ( Luftwaffe Book - Dr. John Pilmott Spanish edition ).
Soon I will start my Airfix 1/72 Bf.109 G-6

Rodolfo

Will have to look again in the morning.. or build a new one..

Hi Everyone.
Here is the finished 1/32 Revell Bristol Beaufighter Mk.1F. This one was originally released in 1974 but it has good fit for such an old kit. I used the kit colour call outs including the brick red for the exhaust collectors. I have seen them in every colour from bronze to gloss black, so I made an executive decision and went with the callout.
Thanks for the campaign.
Regards
Warren

Bloody hell Warren you are like a whirlwind knocking these out. Beau is one of my favourites.
If you get a chance to read Sam McAughtry, McAughtry's War. He was a navigator in a Beau
in Africa and has a great gift for spinning a yarn.

Hello friends:
Yesterday I started another project with an Bf109 G6 of Airfix in 1/72
Here is a problem, the pins are bad for fixing. I will cut them in order to fix correctly in the another part
I finished the pilot. Well, I applied lights and shadows
Here I had some problems with the cabin which is bad aligned and lines is a near invisible. The rest was the same situation, bad aligned.
Here I applied putty to fill the holes
Ready for paint!
Painting phase 1
Following step. I will make my own masks for airbrush instead of the use of decals
Regards!
Rodolfo

Very nice Warren!
I am alomost tempted to start my Tamiya Beaufighter instead of trying to fix the Hasegawa F4U-5N. Just ordered the Ultracast seats yesterday- I already have the early (long) Quickboost hedgehog exhausts, the CMK IF conversion and CE decals for Cunninghams machine(s) ... should be a fun build...
all the best

Thanks Everyone.
Here is another Night Fighter I finished a few months ago, 1/32 Trumpeter F6F-5N OOB, except for some tape seat belts! Click on the piccies for larger ones.
I have finished 26 1/32 aircraft and 1/35 AFVs so far this year.

Warren: I like your Beaufighter and nice looking F6FN.
JP: How many kits are there in your stash?
Rodolfo: Your 109 is coming along nicely and at a fast rate, wish I could build so. I have only one speed (very slow, I watch the snails speed by my window)

for me too many. about 15-20. Half of those are ww1 which I really want to
get around to building. I know thats not a lot but I've no interest in collecting
I'd rather spend the money on nice tools.
Got a few 1/48 scale now which is nice.
Got a few bargains and that is plenty to get on with. Should keep me going at least
another 18 months. Keeps me off the streets and the campaigns keep me building
and building keeps me sane.
Love to see these quick builds from Warren and Rodolfo.
Those masks aren't tight enough rodolfo though. You've got a bit of overspray there.
Artists adhesive film will give you a better result. Any art shop should have a roll of it.
Watercolour and airbrush artists use it.
Kudos to you for using home made masks though. Keep it up.

My stash of about 300 is just right for my building speed.
Almost finished my 1/32 F-105G for the other entry in the Twin Seater group build.

Thanks for your comments and advice.
Here the pics of my work finished. I added a light weathering for the little action in combat (except down for the continuous contact with the earth, humidity, etc.)
Version: German Luftwaffe, Home defense of Germany, 1944.I posted 3 different pics in the Gallery; thanks for this Campaign.

Rodolfo

Hi Rodolfo
Well, call me ignorant, but in how far is this "Night Stalker" related? ... maybe i missed it when you were explaining it?! i am esp. curious how you would explain the use of the WGr. at night ... pretty much a suicide mission ...
all the best

Hi Robert
Well, you are the boss and when you say it counts then it does. I have never read of using WGr.21 at night (among other things that puzzle me about Rodolfos build) and as much as I respect to promote newbies I would like to see at least a distant correllation when entering a campaign .. but probably I was taking things a bit too serious here ...
Hope to finish my bird soon and we'll see if that one counts as campaign participant
all the best

Stefen the questions stands could this a/c have been used in a wild boar mission, others are more knowlegable than I. Do you have any information if so please share it with us I would like to know. My personal knowlege on the wild boar mission is only what I read back in the 1960's and that was not much. I have personaly learned more in the past year by reading your's and other threads.

Hi Robert
Well, I am not going into much detail as this would take much to long (maybe have a look for Lorants JG 300 chronicle at the library) .. just a few sketches:
Hajo Herrman had the "bright" idea to send single engined a/c into night combat .. Wilde Sau ... they had no radar or stuff but just their eyesight and Flak beams. He was pretty successful together with a Flak unit near Berlin and thus High Command allowed him to establish a larger unit. JG 300
For a while (I would have to search my books for the exact time frame) JG 300 was a "Aufsitzerverband" to several Reichsverteidigung units as helle Nachtjagd because aircraft were in short supply. The RV pilots used the planes at day and JG 300 at night. You can imagine that the units where not happy .. the pilots lost their well maintained - often polished - aircraft and the mechanics had to work round the clock.
The JG 300 pilots preferred the Bf109 over the Fw190 because the u/c would collapse when the did a hard landing .. which was rather often the case... Also a few modifications were done. The exhausts got some sheet to cover the exhaust flames and glowing exhausts to protect the night sight of the pilots. Some aircraft got extra equipment, e.g. a glowing instrument lighting or blind flying aids ...
So would you shoot a rocket at night? IMO that would be suicide as the pilot could probably see nothing in the darkness for several minutes .. surely they used the MG gondolas, when the aircraft was equipped with them and appropriate ammunition ("Glimmspur" instead of "Leuchtspur" .. tracers that just glow a bit) .
... as I wrote, it is just a sketch but I hope you get the idea.
all the best

Thanks for the information Stefen, we will let Rodolfos entry stand. More because as you said we are here for enjoyment and since I did not first notice the scheme of the build. Chalk it up to beginners (me at running a campaign). Better get to work on my entry.

Nice job Steffen, I tried to build that kit but ended up discarding it. Is the canopy an aftermarket item?
