Well, I've got some colour on the Mig. I might actually get this thing done on time

Ooh ... that looks very familiar. It's not another Flogger-E, is it?

Well.......ya it is . But mine is going to be in Egyptian markings and no where near as detailed as yours. Oh, and it's littler...1/72 Minicraft kit. Ya know the export version is my fave. Something about the shorter randome or something, I just think it looks cool.

I have a Swing Wing I wanna put in for this campaign, I just recently finished messing around with a F-14D Dragon 1:144 Scale F-14 Tomcat, I converted it into a Russian Air Force aircraft with a background story that the pilot of this aircraft, for a first time in history, an American fighter pilot defected to the Soviet Union bringing the F-14 with him.
The F-14 is painted black with Red stars on her and looks very soviet.

Hi Glenn!

As long as the model has been built within the campaign time period (model started not earlier than September 1, 2008) I have no objections. Since we decided Sci-Fi was OK a what-if is perfectly acceptable as well!

We would however love to see some photos

Due to popular demand, we'll extend the campaign until April 30th. This will however be the last extension, I hope that is OK with you?

Hi all!

This will be a most welcome extension for me!

Not only have the fit been less then poor in places, Italeri then fooled me to install wrong parts!

In the instructions Italeri quotes "for version A/B only" on the IR-pod beneath the nose and for the antennas on the fin.
As I´m building the "A" option I happily assembled and glued the pod, filled, sanded and polished to get a good finish.

Then I found a bunch of wonderful pictures on the net, and the aircraft HAD NO POD OR ANTENNAS!!!!
On the Instructions Italeri had the drawing correct too, no pod or antennas.
Those were on the options B AND C, and so should it have been noted in the instructions!
Sloppy by Italeri and careless from me to relay on the instructions!

Well, I had to cut off the offending parts, fill, sand and polish once again!

Now I have painted the seams grey to check for any blemishes as you can see here;

There´s one or two spots that will be treated once again, but overall it looks good.
Now I have painted the wheel wells white and glued the stabs on.

She´s coming together and looks like a Tornado!

Soon It´s time for some serious painting with black and silver!

Cheers!

Hey, that worked! It's Academy's 1/72 Mig 23 with a little Eduard p.e. and a True Details seat. There were some corrections done here and there, and room for more, but all in all a nice little kit. The Egyptian markings are from an old Microscale sheet. Here's a couple more pics.

Here it's shown with two other Russian "swingers"

I've decided that there still too much work needed on my 1/48 Tomcat and the last thing I want to do is rush it.

So I've decided that as I have a couple of days off next week I might try a speed build (maybe a 24 or 48 hour) on a Revell 1/144 F-14D Tomcat and use the decals from the Dragon 2+1 offering.

Watch this space............

Working on the wheels, antennas and other details of the Su-24 fencer.

I will finish this one just in time...
An interesting detail, the Zvezda kit has the exact same sprues and instructions from the Dragon kit.

I would like to have my name to this list as well..I have already finished my swing-wing aircraft for this build...It didn't take to long as it was a OOB build..
I chose the F-14D, 1:144 scale from the DRAGON models. I am a huge fan of 1:144 scale models, and I will be posting a picture or two of the build as soon as possible..
Hope you all like it..I kinda fooled around with it.
It is a Russian F-14 Tomcat that an American pilot took to Russia and defected to the Russians. I thought, hey, A russian pilot defected and brought one of their aircraft, so why not reverse that and have the Russians get a hold of some nice Western military aircraft technology?

Almost finished my Fencer..
- wheels, antennas, pods all done !!
Currently working on some weapons and fuel tanks.

Will have to buy some masking tape and a spray can for the Camo paint, apply the decals and try to finish this campaign... batteries for the camera too would help to post some more progress shots too..

Hi all!

i have been working hard on my stubborn Tornado, and I´m making some progress!

Really....

After some small seam-correcting tasks, I gave the model a final coat of grey primer.

Then i could paint the whole aircraft in a handsome gloss black.

I left it for a few days, and then it was time to do some masking.
It´s more masking then you can believe on this kit, actually!

To get a softer edge I used blue-tack "worms";

Then a coat of Alclad White Auminium;

More masking to paint the panels around the exhausts Alclad steel;

same around the guns;

Then it was off with all the masking!

I wasn´t careful enough when masking the wings so I got this;

Not good enough so I did a respray freehanded;

Much better now, eh?

The model after painting is completed;

Then it was time to get some decals on the Tonka!

These are from Cartograph and posed no problems whatsoever!

Beautiful colors, perfect print, opaque and very easy to use!
Only hard spots was over the vortex generators(?) on the fin, and the big cat-face on the spine.
But with Micro-set and -sol, and a bit of careful slicing with a scalpel, it worked like a charm!

Only the small dangly bits left now!

I´ll get her done this weekend if everything goes as planned (but whatever does?).

Cheers!

Ryan, great job on the MiG 23. Looks great with a very cool camo.

Stefan, nice save on the painting. The decals look great in place. This is going to be a colourfull bird.

Looking forward to see what turns up during the last days of the campaign.
