Cheers JP
It was a bit of a rebound into an open goal, but as you say, they all count.
OK, I found this nice odd-ball. Can anyone identify it?

Looks like one of Rowen's early attempts to cross the English Channel or Loch Ness.
Notice the extral little canoes built into the upper wing for emergency water landing.

Hi Ed
Those "canoes" are a clue as to the identity of this ill-fated specialised fighter prototype; think what anyone sat in them might have shot at...

Hi Ben
Wrong aircraft, but you're very much on the right lines.

Hi Ben
No, not the Bristol (although the description on Wiki sounds so similar).

Hi Michal
Not the Blackburd (or any Blackburn aircraft). Ben is on the right trail with an anti-Zeppelin fighter.

Hi Sean
It is indeed!

Apparently the monstrosity could hardly get off the ground and crashed on its first flight! Why doesn't that seem a surprise?...
Over to you for the next one.

So ... which fighter once nearly sank a friendly trawler without even leaving the ground?

The ground might have caused it a few problems, too.

Hi Sean
I could do with a clue to narrow it down a bit. I've tried web-searches but haven't turned up anything.

Ok it wasn't a sea fury. No need for it to be a naval fighter at all come to think of it.
It was a spitfire test firing cannons off Orfordness. Warmer?

Nope. (I know that part of Southampton quite well and believe me, anyone fishing in the water there
ought to be sunk for public health reasons.)
