Hi all!
Many nice builds going on!
Here comes another straggler!
My Bronco ain´t helpful one bit, and I could also need a few day´s extension!
The Bronc is bucking and refusing to play along, but it´s coming together, bit by bit!
Now to my up-date;
When I finally had everything done for the camouflage, it hit me!
The “glass roof” is supposed to be blue-tinted!
This is very obvious and a spotting feature on the Bronco!
I de-masked the roof, and gave it a coat of clear blue, and I hope for the best!
When thoroughly dry, I re-masked the roof again.
NOW, it was time to prime the complete airframe with a light satin grey, and check for any spots that I had missed.
After some smaller repairs, I gave it a new coat.
It’s wonderful to see how the different coloured parts ”go together” and form a complete ”whole”!
Time to get some cammo on!
This will be an USAF machine with all over ADC-grey (very light grey) with white wing top.
The props didn’t look too good, ejector marks on the back and plenty of flash everywhere called for a good clean-up.
First, I painted the tips on every blade a light grey, then white.
The wing got a couple good coats of white.
When dry, I masked off the wing top.
The I painted the complete airframe ADC-Grey, NOT Gull Grey as Cutting Edge stated in the decal sheet!
Gull Grey is a NAVY colour, and is much more greenish in hue.
ADC is a very neutral and “cool” colour that was used on the F-102 Delta Dart, F-106 Delta Dagger and F-101 Voodoo.
Then it was time for the decals!
I used an old sheet from Cutting Edge, too old as it would prove!
The sharks mouth refused to conform to the compound curves of the nose, not even lots of Micro-set and –sol could get the decal to comply, but broke up in several smaller pieces!
After lots of hard work I could cobble together something that was acceptable, but not more.
On the other hand, this walkway-decal worked perfectly well!
Strangely enough, the rest of the decals went on without a hitch.
Cheers!
Stefan E

Beautifully finished 189 there eMan, I love the winter camo scheme !
Thanks for joining in and sharing your work with us.
Only a couple of (official) days to go guys, and it looks like we have Broncos and Vixens and Vampires and Lightnings all on final approach. Best I get up in the tower and bring you guys to the strip in some kind of order !!
Cheers, D

Hi all,
A milestone is done - airframe completed after sanding, adjusting, sanding, adjusting, sanding...
Being built out of the box the Hobbycraft kit features a serious „drooping wing problem“. Without adjustment this would have turned a graceful design into an ugly duckling.
I‘ve just realised, that there are only three days left and try to keep with the pace. Honestly the first doubts arise, that I won‘t finish in time and miss my take-off slot. Maybe our „Wizard of Oz“ conjures up some extension. Time for a miracle...
@ Stefan: Your Bronco is going to be a beauty! I‘ve the old Testors‘ kit still waiting in my stash for times to come (and a Paragon detail set ;-) ...
@ eMan: Very nice built of the Fw 189! Unfortunately rarely seen as a finished built. Even more I would highly appreciate to see more picts of your build.
Cheers
Matty

Well, I primed my vampire last night, but then just couldn't take the look of the inaccurate intakes any longer.
So there is no way my build is going to be finished by the looming deadline.
i'd request an extension, but 3 other campaigns I am in are ending in the coming weeks and those builds need attention too.
so unless an extension of like 3 weeks or more is possible, I give up on the campaign - i'd rather take the time to get the intakes right than get the ribbon.

Here‘s my latest progress on the Vampire.
Had some trouble with the silver finish. The metallic particles of the first colour used were too coarse. So, after stripping off the paint, I had to do the priming and painting once again. This time I used a mix of Metalizer and sealer and I‘m quite happy with it.
Unfortunately, the green paint on the fins is still sticky. So, there‘s no chance to finish in time without any extension...
@ Vance: It‘s a pity, that these intakes slow you down. It would have been nice to finish side by side with your Vampire. Cheer up and stick to it!
Cheers

Hi Guys,
Well I'm not far off. but I'm not going to make the deadline, It got the better of me in the end. A couple more days should see her through with final assembly, decals and a touch of weathering.
Ribon or no ribon, this is getting finished one way or another!
Victor.

Well folks, here we are at the "official" end of the BOOM BOOM Twin Boom Campaign !!
Firstly, let me give a HUGE thanks you to everybody who has contributed, either with a build for the Campaign, or with comments and words of encouragement along the way. I am humbled by the way that my first Aeroscale Campaign has evolved and grown with your participation!!
Secondly, to all of you with completed builds, congratulations and ribbons will be awarded shortly.
Thirdly, to all of you with works still in progress, please don't lose heart, your ribbons will be awarded when you let me know you are done. Please continue to post progress and completed works, I am learning from every picture and post I see here !! To me it is much more important to see a build completed to the satisfaction of the builder, rather than to a time frame where it may be rushed through. Please take the time you need to get it done right !!
Fourth, here is my running sheet of enlisted personnel at the "end" of formalities :

Well, the Gallery doesn't love me any more and won't let me upload pics of my Skymasters
So here they are . . . .
Heller 1/50th
and Testors 1/48th
and both, for comparison
I will post some better pics in the Gallery once I get my camera back from repairs.
Cheers, D

Hi Damian,
Thanks for a great campaign and the nice encouraging words, especially for us stragglers!
I‘m looking forward to your next unusual topic campaign to come.
But before this I‘ll be happy to post picts of my progress and hopefully of the finished Vampire soon to get that damn ribbon in the end...
Congrats to everybody who‘s finished already - there have seen some really nice builds!
Cheers
Matty

Hi all!
Finally on final…..!
After the “big fight” with the decals, I jumped on the opportunity to get the props done!
I painted the prop blades Alclad Polished Aluminium, and after sufficient drying time, I could remove the masking, and admire my work.
min) kunde jag ta av maskeringen och beundra slutresultatet!
Look out here!
The props are counter rotating and thus the blades have to be set up accordingly!
The ”Bad” mouth got some red and black touch-ups and get that right grin!
The exhausts were painted in my usual home-brew mix of (Humbrol 70, 121 and 56), then a pin-wash of artists oil-paints (Raw Umber and Lamp Black mixed with white spirit) to finish it off.
As I already had the paint-mix, I gave the model a wash where needed, even if I want a rather clean and neat aircraft.
Finally I sealed the model with Humbrol Mattcoate, with 50% Gloss coate added, to get a nice satin sheen seen on the real aircrafts.
Some antennas added, made from cat-whiskers, supplied by my cat.
No I DID NOT pluck it out!
He shreds them all over the house, so it’s only a matter of keeping your eyes open!
She´s not completley done yet, a tank and armament will be added (Four LAU-3 Rocket pods, from a Hasegawa weapons set), a drop-tank on the centre-line pylon and the landing gear doors, more paint on the tires etc.
Is a model ever really DONE????
When I shot the photos, I saw IT;
Where the H*ll did this came from???
AAAhhrrrrggghhhh…….
Oh, well, here’s some more pics anyway and I can call the model done for this campaign!
Not a very easy build, but it was enjoyable and rewarding, and I´m glad to have done it!
Let’s only prey that Roden, Revell or someone else will give us a modern 1/48th kit of this forgotten, but important and so very charismatic aircraft!
Thanks for running this campaign so well!
Cheers!
Stefan E

Hi Everybody,
Well my Vampire is complete, all I can say is It's been emotional!
The decals went on very well, and I'm reasonably happy with the overall finish, as it was my first go at a mixed media kit.

Hi Damian
I ran in a total block with all the PE and took some other easy builds to regain some modelling mojo. At the moment I cannot say for sure what is going on with my P-38 but I certainly have not given up to finish it (no matter if it counts for the campaign or not)

I ran in a total block with all the PE and took some other easy builds to regain some modelling mojo. At the moment I cannot say for sure what is going on with my P-38 but I certainly have not given up to finish it (no matter if it counts for the campaign or not)

Steffen, always better to wait than to force a build through. The end result will be better when the build motivation is there. It is a hobby after all and should enjoyable.
In case you do not make it for this campaign, I think it is a perfect match for the "Hangar Queen" Campaign.

Damian, I too like the camouflaged cessna better Looks more interesting, and I belive this kit has realy nicer surface detail.
I got this book with decals for my Lightning:
Right now I have a hard time, deciding which I want to model.
I'd go for the California Cutie, but as Sam is already doing this one. I'll probably choose Charlcie Jeanne in NMF, this scheme also has that rather colorful Bunyip in yellow circle on the right side of the nose. Only con for this aircraft is that I'm not sure if I would like to tackle NMF finish right now. The other option would be to build the Jack in OD/Neutral Grey finish.
Cheers
Greg
Greg - just wondering where you got the decals. My grandfather was the crew chief of the Charlcie Jeanne in '44 and I'm working on a J version that I'd love to do up with the right nose art.
