Hi Robert, Russell here. Would you tell me how much experience you have with an airbrush? Do you have one? If so, that is the way I would go to paint your model. I think everyone on here would agree that it is hard to beat the atomized spray and control you get with an airbrush for painting models. I will be happy to help you in any way I can; just ask. I know others on the site feel the same way. Take care, Russell

Thanks russle,
I'm definitely going to get myself an airbrush at some point as I don't yet own one although it would be helpful to know some good but not overly expensive brand names as this stuff is all totally new for me.
I'll also have a look at some toutorials on the net to see if they can help.
Thanks again
Rob

Robert-
if I may recommed to contact Mr. Alex Caldwell at the Airbrushcompany (see link via front page advertisement of Aeroiscale). I think you'll get very good guidance, fair prices and examplary service from them. At least that is my experience. I am fairly certain they will have good starter packages, which won't rip to big a whole into your pocket.
Cheers,
Guido

As a starting airbrush you can't go wrong with the Iawata Neo. It's a good all round dual action airbrush for around £50. I'd also go with Guido's advice give the airbrush company a ring as they maybe able to do a deal on an airbrush and compressor. As for tutorials try looking in the beginners forum from what i can recall there's a wealth of knowledge on airbrushing in there.

The bits and pieces are coming together on the F-106: the main gear, speed brake, and missile rails:

Got some work done on my 21, gear bays, and cockpit and such. My only complaint about eduard kits is that there are always a ton of tiny pieces, that require gluing two flat surfaces onto eachother... which conveniently sucks if the piece falls onto say... the floor. But after an hour of searching I found it... tough bugger. Hopefully I will be able to lay some paint later this week!

Wow, actually got a little bit of paint on my F-102 this weekend. Sadly just the gear wells and the the rocket bay...

Yesterday was a productive day off work: finished main assembly excluding landing gear, primed, painted the base colors for the top and bottom, and hurried up and waited for morning. This morning, I painted the remaining three colors on the topside, and removed some of the masks, and touched up a couple spots. This weekend I aim to get the gear set!

Michael,
Beautiful paint job! I see Tamiya paints in the background, is that what you sprayed? And I'm guessing you use an Iwata airbrush?
I've been intrigued by your model stand/holder--what the heck is it? Did you build it?
Looking forward to the next installment.

I guess I need to get out more, eh?
Very cool looking. Something else to add to the ol' wish list.

Thanks Keith, I used Vallejo for the lightest green and the underside "barley Grey". According to the Eduard instructions, the tan was supposed to be equivelant to Vallejo Mud, but I did not like the color, nor did I like the thinned consistency of the regular vallejo paint. I used Tamiya Flat Earth instead, as well as flat brown and olive drab. Between all the paints I have used (Tamiya, Lifecolor, Vallejo, and model master) I prefer Tamiya, and try my hardest to either use their stuff strait from the pot, or mix accordingly. The cockpit is a mix of blue, green and light blue. And yes, I do have an Iwata airbrush! However could you tell? The other comment was spot on about the tamiya stand, I picked it up off amazon for $25; MONEY WELL SPENT!!!

Michael--it was a lucky, educated guess. I have an Eclipse and it lays down a pretty sharp feather edge when compared to my old yet trusty Badger 150. I also use whatever paints I have available if the color is right.
Started decaling the bottom. A coat of Future sure makes a big difference in the decals laying smooth and flat. Even the thick Revellogram ones behave:

It's been a little quiet on this thread so here is another decal pic...well for the heck of it:
When I was younger I would apply all of a kit's decals in one sitting-- top, bottom, sides, front and back. Now that I am older and have more patience I apply them in stages. This way there are less mistakes and fewer mishaps. The major (large) ones go on one surface and after they dry for a day or two the next batch of major decals will go on another surface, and after those dry the minor (miniscule) decals will go on.

Michael, that camoflauge job on the MiG is awesome to look at! Good work there. Keith your 106 is coming along very nicely as well. Looking forward to seeing both aircraft completed. Russell

Keith: I really like the grey variance on your bird, looks good!
Thanks Justin and Russ!
I laid a layer of gloss on it this morning, I have pics, but I am running out of space on image shack! Curses!!!! But I am going to let it cure today/tomorrow, and hopefully get popping on decals soon. I kind of enjoy the stenciling, so I am going to go full bore on them. I'll post some pics once I have more progress!

Great work going on in here!
With respect, I am delisting from this campaign. I never started the Skyhawk kit, and now Ive sold it. Plenty of other irons in the fire though, be seeing you all around!

I too am particular about taking my time with decals. I have the stencils on the right wing, and half of the decals done on the right upper side of the aircraft. Hopefully tomorrow I can get a few more on that side. The left side however is double the stencils... But, the juice will be worth the squeeze!
