While doing some on-line research on the F-106 I ran across this pic of a "-106 on a stick" static display. Can anyone spot the glaring error on the Florida ANG fighter?
Keith
Hmmm... Should it be the 126th FW?

Michael (and anyone else now trying to figure it out),
I didn't mean for this to turn into a game, but no, it's not the unit number which is in error.

I suspect you're referring to the US National Insignia, which someone has managed to paint upside down.

That would be the one!
I've never seen that done before and can't imagine it was on purpose.

Actually, I caught that. I was just trying, and apparently failing, to be clever. So much for my sense of humor!

Michael,
That is too funny, because I also have a problem with my wacky sense of humor coming across on posts, and emails for that matter. Case in point: in the Hangar Queen 2 campaign I made mention of the quality of the builds and commented on the speed of the work being done. Tongue-in-cheek I wondered how they ended up as hangar queens to begin with. That post received an eloquent reply about life, the universe, and everything, that can get in the way of our hobby.
When I read your reply I did think "he's got to be joking" but not knowing you that well (yet) I responded with a safe answer so as not to offend. The next time I see something from you which could be taken lightly I'll try to respond in kind.
Thanks for playing!

Now back to the build!
Airbrushed the panel lines with smoke, then airbrushed some blue-gray for color modulation, and applied an overall blue-gray filter to help blend it all together.

OK, I must not have any sense of scale. How big is that Vulcan? Looks like the wingspan is a foot or less, I figured it to be well over 18.

Here's my poor long-sufering Vulcan sitting beside my spiffy new Valiant.
The paper measures 20 X 25; the Vulcan's wingspan is 19"

@ Robert: A Vulcan is always welcome! But your kit is 5 years too old...

Thanks Jess, I knew the Vulcan was huge (remembered it that way from Thunderball). Just wasn't getting the sense of it in the picture...

Yeah I realised how old it was when three inches of dust was blown off it when I took it out for the first time in 3-4 years,
thought I may as well do it on the 30th anniversary of the Falklands war though.

I've got the same Airfix Vulcan, which I bought in 1991 at a local hobby shop. I would like to build it, it is quite a model isn't it?
I was watching something on the Vulcan the other day and was shocked to hear that only the pilot and co pilot had ejection seats. The rest of the crew had to try and bail out the old fashioned way!! Is this true? Wow! She is still a pretty bird though! Russell

Yes, all 3 V bombers had that problem; only the pilots had ejection seats; the Navigators in the back had to crawl out the side door in the Valiant and Victor, and out the bottom in the Vulcan. This cost the lives of several Navigators over the years. There was much controversy when Vulcan XA 897 crashed after returning from Australia. The pilots ejected, but the 4 crew members (there was one extra on that flight) in the back didn't have time to get out. Since it was arriving at Heathrow to a VIP reception, the crash was widely publicised and horrified the British public. The RAF and the Air Ministry wrangled and argued for years but nothing was ever done.

Hi there guys hopefully I'll be uploading some more pics tomorrow as most of the major exterior parts have been put on, and now it's starting too look much more like a Vulcan.
Quick question in the way of painting this one should I try out spray paints, bearing in mind that this would be my first time using them.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions, and I'll try and upload those photos as soon as possible.

Robert,
Do you mean spray paint out of a 'rattle can' or were you referring to airbrushing?
Either way it would be a major milestone in your progression in the hobby and both can be a lot of fun. Good luck. Let us know how it turns out.

If you're doing your Vulcan in anti-flash white I would recommend using a rattle can, as white is a notoriously difficuly colour, and you've a lot of model to cover. Try using White Primer from your local Halfords.
If doing camo, and you don't have an airbrush, I would say to brush paint it.

Thanks to a cracked canopy on a revell f-18 I was building, I believe my eduard Mig-21 has waited long enough to get done. So, count me in! I decided to do a sample of the camo to ensure I have the right colors laying around.
