Boy, this kit is really showing it's age! I found molding dates of 1974...thats before my time!!! I applied putty to the sanded seams, and am actually pleased how its starting to look!
The parts are friction fit for pics only..still need to wash all the sanding slime off the parts
More to come...

The paint scheme is still bugging me...black version , or Olive Drab? I flipped a quarter, then asked my spouse, and the satin black version was chosen!!
Question ..will the decals lay down properly over a semi-gloss coat? I'm using MM enamels.
I hope to start paint before the weekend!

never really had luck laying them down on a flat surface.
hope this helps
looking great so far

Hi,
Some great work is being done in this thread!
Update:
Cockpit has been assembled with Eduard photo-etch, painted and weathered. The radio equipment (I guess) and long wire behind the seat was not included in the Hasegawa instructions, but only in the Eduard instructions. I decided to put it in anyways.
The wheel wells have been mounted, painted and weathered. This took alot of cutting, sanding and dry-fitting. Especially the nose well was a bit difficult to align properly, but I think it came out alright - we'll see when the fuselage is assembled.
I have decided to drop the flaps - so to speak - (ie NOT mount the PE) - because I can't find a single photo of a parked P-39 with the flaps down. This way I will also save a bit of precious time ;-)
Cheers

alclad done!I will come back in and shade some panels, anti glare and a few other add ons like a yellow tail and nose.I had to spray with future and let it dry because when I went to mask it the allclad was pulling up.first time I had to mask so test section didnt go so well.
It toned it down a little bit more than I wanted but oh well ka sara sara

Guys, very nice works here! Keep the beauties coming!
Justin, may be too late but you can seal the alclad coat with their own Aqua Gloss lacquer. Way better than future and all the others gloss varnishes.

Justin & Jesper: Thank you very much! Justin, beautiful work with that Alclad!
Michael: Congratulations - beautiful Tornado! My 5 year old daughter likes it too, she's very fond of pink things with little harts on it
Progress report:
I have closed the fuselage up. Then mounted the top parts of wings to the fuselage:
And the bottom side:
The model wants to sit on its tail, so I filled the nose with chopped up lead pellets from an airgun and - more or less - fixed it with thin superglue. It still rattles a bit when I handle it though. It's difficult to ignore that sound - it usually means trouble
And canopy has been glued. It didn't fit very well - the fuselage is a bit too wide. I guess the cockpit or the wings stretches the fuselage a bit, because the canopy fitted perfectly before cockpit and wings were mounted. Anyways, I think it will be OK.
Next up is filling and sanding the seams, and then - painting!
Cheers

Thanks gents, ya my girlfriend has been on my back to do a desert pink aircraft since she saw one at a model contest we went to a couple weeks ago. It helps ease the complaining about all the finished builds around the house. I look forward to seeing that Aircobra finished. Sadly I did not get nearly enough weight in the nose when I built mine a while back.

I'm finally ready to put the airbrush down , and call the P-61 finished!!! The kit was ...well, less than acceptable for fit. I painted it w/ MM semi- gloss, and the decals laid down perfectly..much to my surprise. The "pin-stripe" along the upper surface had to be airbrushed..well worth the effort. Hope ya like the pics!

Michael, it's a very nice ODS bird. I've always had that feeling that the brit ODS pin-ups are some how neglected, as we don't see many of them built. So, really glad to see yours finished.
Jeff, even without rescribing your P-61 is very, very nice. Always good to see one of those big, black, fighters.
Kenneth, well, let me just say that because of your painting skills now I feel the need to build one of these!
Justin, you're totally right, paint always looks better. Especially on a nicely done alclad finish.
Keep up with the good work and, of course, keep us posted!!!

Thanks Dimitar, I agree, it is sadly an overlooked subject.
Justin, your jug is coming together gorgeously. The effort put forward is well worth it, and I look forward to seeing the finished product.
Also, that Black Widow looks sharp, nice clean build!
