My little Revell F2A-1 Brewster Buffalo is in the sanding shop. The fit was rather good for a 40 year old kit. The excellent decals from Starfighter arrived and I'll be painting the plane for VF-3, USS Saratoga, 1940, Piloted by LT Jimmy Thatch. Yellow wings all the way.

Thanks Richard! That sounds like a really good suggestion. Usually for my 1/144 airliners I will use decals to make it easier when finishing but I'll have to try your idea on larger scale (1/72) airliners or those which will be easy to mask for painting.
Have fun modeling!

Quoted TextHave you ever used clear resin? You can buy crude resin for small castings at art supply stores. You can apply Scotch tape (thoroughly burnished) on the outside and just glaze the interior with resin until the windows are filled. Once it's hard sand it then polish it with pumice and you've got windows! Then it's time to put LED's in....With the holiday season upon us, I think it is time to properly start this build. Revell molds their 767 fuselage halves with open windows with the idea that you will either keep these open in the finished model (rather chilly at 35K feet?)or fill them in with white glue. I prefer using window decals for my 1/144 airliners so my first step is to fill in the open spaces. With no clear parts supplied in the kit for windows, I first glued a plastic strip inside the fuselage to serve as a backdrop or dam for the putty.I found from experience that it will be easy to push the putty into the glued fuselage if you don't add the backing! I then mixed up a batch of Apoxie putty (like Milliput) and applied it from the outside. You can see the interior backing strip and the applied putty in this photo:
Once the putty is fully cured, it will be sanded smooth. I can work on other subassemblies while waiting.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to my fellow modelers!

Time for another update on my 767 build. I now have the fuselage together and mated to the wings. Here is how my Plain Plane now looks:
Next up is another coat of primer, then cleaning up any remaining scratches, holes, seems, etc. Hopefully, I'll be moving on to the final paint coats before too long.
Have fun modeling!

Thanks Andy! A local hobby shop made and sold these years ago but sadly they are no longer in business. I wish I had bought a few of the jigs as it is one of the most used tools on my bench.Stephen, a Jug,fantastic mate ,one of my favourite planes

Question on the rules - this can be "What if" aircraft, correct? Otherwise, a bit of a late start, but really looking towards participating in my first campaign!

I have decided to do a Bf 110C for this campaign. I will go with the Dachshund cartoon or with the Lion and Eagle cartoon.
In any case this will be a fun build. Simple kit that shows its age here and there, but online reviews seems to indicate it will go together well.

Mike. If you could ever provide isometric, elevation and plan photos of that jig (and any removable parts separately ) on your scaled cutting mat I bet I wouldn't be the only appreciative member here. He'll it would make a good feature if you ask me.
Jesper I have that same 110 kit languishing half built on my bench. I can tell you that the fit is remarkable on it. Goes together like lego.

Hi Richard! That is a great idea. I can take it apart and then photograph the pieces with a ruler for size. Any thoughts on where or how I should post that on Aeroscale?
Keeping this post on topic, I am now painting my 767 in its final colors. Right now it is not very exciting lookig as it now has two coats of gloss white paint so far. After the second coat dries a bit more, I'll look over it carefully to see if it needs an additional white coat. If not, it is on to painting the gray wings.
Have fun modeling!
Mike

It would fit quite well in either the General Aircraft or the Start Here forums. If you take enough pictures and write a thorough enough description I could turn into one of our "How Tto" features we run from time to time.

Hi Jessica! Thanks, I like your idea. I hope to have some time later in April to catch up on things as I have a pretty heavy business travel schedule right now. I'll disassemble the jig, photograph the parts and write something up. I would definitly appreciate any help on the editing as while I have written quite a few model build aricles, I have never done one for a tool (not to mention one that I did not originally make!).
Have fun modeling!

Hi everybody! I have just signed up for the campaign, admittedly at the 11th hour, but that should do wonders for my motivation ie 7 weeks to go and two other projects on the workbench? Good job I love a challenge!
My better half wants a shark mouthed Tornado GR1 from Desert Storm, and what she wants she gets, so I have Revell's 1/72 RAF GR1 on the way (which I understand to be the best Tornado kit out there), and a set of decals for 4 Desert Storm GR1's from Print Scale. Here is the nose art I will be doing:

Right then! The cockpit is assembled, decalled and painted. I have to say this kit is fitting together like a dream, and is every bit as good a kit as I had heard. For a 1/72 scale kit, there is an absolute wealth of fine detail, and I'm seriously impressed with the amount of ordnance that comes with it.

I am happy to report that I finally can show some progress in my slow motion build! I now have the B767 fuselage fully painted and waiting to get decaled. This is the part that I am dreading a bit as I have heard some horror stories about the Brazil decals that I plan to use. I will just dive and see how it develops! Here's a few photos of the painted B767 waiting to get "cartooned".
Have fun modeling!
