A quick question: is this campaign limited to the UK's Airfix, or would a model by 'USAirfix' qualify? Picked up a 1/72 USAirfix Me-262 over the weekend, though it's missing its decals.

This Airfix kit is what's I'll be assembling under this GB:
Before Dragon came up with its Chi-Ha kit, IIRC, t'was the only braille plastic-injection kit readily available to IJA tank modellers. The original vinyl tracks has been replaced by some other material that can be glued using CA. The decals has better registration than that it the older boxing of this kit.

Closing in fast now.
Soon I must do the exhaust stains. Always a stressful event.

The rules allow any Airfix kit, even when it's been reboxed by another company. Your Schwalbe is welcome.

Any Airifx kit? Awesome! I'm thrilled with what Airfix have been doing with their new mould stuff, the price and the details are just amazing! I might just build two kits for this campaign as I've just bought the new mould Blenheim MkI and I've got to say WOW! Main wing spars, well detailed engines and cowls, a very nice bomb bay, detailed landing gear bays. And the instructions are just fantastic, cad pictures of the part to be placed in red, actually in the assembled position so you can actually SEE how it's supposed to be assembled. I think Airfix will garner another generation of avid modellers if they continue on this path, I certainly hope that this new and enthusiastic direction they've taken brings the company the success that they so richly deserve. I for one will be stocking the stash with quite a number of their new kits!
Okay enough of the fan boy squealing and onto the kit for this build. After getting some Advice from Richard I'm in with the Avro Anson and I've got to say for a kit that was first manufactured in 1962 it goes together with little fuss! The wing root joints are almost perfect and there's even an interior of sorts. The assembly is straight forward and reasonably quick. What you see here is a couple of days work. A picture paints a thousand words or so I'm told, so here are some pics to see how things are progressing.
As per usual the Airfix propellers leave a little to be desired in terms of fit between the shaft and the locking collar. So I added a length of plastic tube to keep the propellers straight and it allows me to remove them for transport!

Hi Chris.
I will have to keep a look out for this one and add to my wish list.

Chris, the Avro Anson is a cool choice. I have one in the wings waiting to be assembled.
My Battle of Britain Class is beginning to take shape. I'm removing some of the heaver cast details to be replaced with brass wire and other little bits.
Motorizing turns out to be rather expensive for what you start with. Therefore, this model will be static.
I'll save up for a new loco drive Hornby model.

Great work every one!
One thing with a lot of the Airfix kits low part count makes for a quick build.
Maybe the campaign should have been a two build entry! LOL

My new years resolution was to build more than I managed last year, and actually complete the campaigns I enter. Did not have much luck last year with personal life and work issues getting in the way. Hopefully this year will be better.
So I'm in with a kit I've wanted for years and finally treated myself to after visiting Wonderland Models in Edinburgh over the Christmas holidays.
I'll be building the 1/72 S-Boat, formerly E-Boat from 1975.
It's going to be a challenge but I'm up for it. It's a model that takes me back to my childhood. My dad built one when it was originally released in the mid 70's and had left it at home when he moved out. I remember it being in a cabinet at my grandparents house when I was younger and I was always fascinated with it. The torpedo tubes opened up and could be loaded, even though it was hard to get them back out and it was fully rigged. It was brilliant. And then one day my Nan decided to dust it with a feather duster and broke off a lot of the parts. It was then given to a younger cousin to play with and was soon smashed to bits. To say that my dad was not happy is an understatement!
So this will replace that long lost model.
Got a few other things to finish first, this is a BIG model and it's going to take over the desk!

Great stuff going on here.
Made a small start on the Dornier, lots going on in the cockpit.
The Pilot,s seat and framework.
The rear gunner's compartment, lots of saddle type ammo drums moulded in.
The rear gunner's seat and support frame, all very neatly moulded.
Side console and other crew seats added to the fuselage halves.
The plan is to assemble as mush of the interior as possible prior to shooting any paint at it so I can get it all done in one go.
More soon.

Nice choice John, another Childhood memory.
On the DO17.
The interior components sprayed grey.
A few details picked out, and a wash of citadel Gryphon Sepia added to lift out the wealth of moulded detail. There is a bit of glare as the wash was not quite dry.
I have learned from experience with new tool Airfix kits, follow the instructions to the letter. The pilot's seat and frame added.
Next step according to the Instructions, join the fuselage halves.
Very good fit considering the large openings.
One small deviation, I had to remove the rear crew seat in order to get the rear gunners compartment to fit.
replaced, the rear gunner's seat fitted along with the bomb bay structure / wing spars fitted.
The upper wing test fitted, a little fettling will be needed, but not much.

That is a bloody nice looking kit Simon. I may have to get one of those...
Decals. I defied the airfix callouts and put both Roundels on the upper surface. I can find no supporting evidence to corroborate this one roundel business they're indicating. I think it may be a colossal misprint.
Tiny touch ups, subassemblies and Matt finish to go. I read that a stretched sprue contracts when you heat it?? It'd better because I couldn't get ez line to stick for love nor money.

It is a great looking kit Richard, and so far going together very well.
Must admit not my usual scale, but when I saw the sprues on the Airfix stand at a show I just had to have a go.

Well, I have begun my build of the 1/24 Spitfire Vb. Having decided to 'button it all up' I began with...the engine, strange? not really, it's there to provide a base for the exhausts and the propeller.
One thing has become blatantly obvious, the age of the kit leads to flash on some parts and lack of detail on others. The cannon are awful, I'm glad I have the Master barrels to stick out the wing. The Brownings are better but I will replace the barrels with metal tube.
In this boxing Airfix have included not just parts for a Vb but also a Vb Tropical with both Vokes and Aboukir filters as well as clipped wing ends. I hope to build it as a Trop possibly for 74 sqn who operated both Vb and Vc but that does not need deciding now.

Attaching subassemblies and wouldn't you know it, I painted the damn strut doors opposite colours. Especially annoying when the fix is painting white over black and black over white.
Exhausts are on but they seem to protrude too far. I applied a good deal of force so they are definitely seated. Finish on them is shiny aluminum, black water colour followed by graduated black, orange and light grey pigments.

My entry, an older 1/72 Me-262 reboxed by USAirfix that I picked up at an antique shop. It's a pretty simple bird and the plastic has a few scratches on it. However the paint seems to have covered them up relatively well.
Unfortunately the decals did not make it to the antique store with the kit. As such I'm substituting some decals I just got in the mail, making this a what if? Ukrainian Liberation Army Schwalbe..

Great work on the Spit Richard, looking excellent.
After a little fettling on the wing spars and the rear cockpit the upper wing was a great fit. The instructions would have the rear well bulkheads fitted to the lower wing prior to attachment. I went along with this, and they fitted well.
The Nacelles fitted, along with the forward wheel well bulkhead.
The forward bulkhead has detail on both faces, pity the front face will be hidden by the engine mounts.
The engine mounts assembled.
and fitted.
More soon.
