I'm going to call this one done. This is the Bristol Beaufighter T.F.X. kit #02003. I made it strictly out of the box. I chose to make it wheels up as I plan on hanging it from my ceiling.
I'm not talented, or patient, enough to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear kit. I have hard enough time not making a sow's ear out of a silk purse kit. I'm sure many people here can take this kit and make a contest winner out of it.
I really enjoy making Airfix kits, especially the newer ones. I can't wait to get the new Beaufighter, also the new Defiant in 1/72.

Actually sat down and worked on the SBD today and tested out my airbrush for the first time. Think it went ok, for the first time using an airbrush but the Badger 350 I used was a bit temperamental and is going to take some getting use to. Got most of the major painting done and just have some touch up work and small parts to do before I move to decals.

And just like that: boom! The 1/72 Hawker Typhoon Ib:

A very enjoyable build indeed. The decals went down perfectly over a glossy surface and using Solvaset.
Like a lot of modelers, I have several builds going at once, in my case for three different campaigns. This kit for the Airfix Campaign, the 1/24 Typhoon for the Hot Out of the Molds Campaign, and the 1/48 Hurricane for the Battle of Britain Campaign. Imagine my surprise to realize that they're all Airfix kits! My next build will likely be for the upcoming Bomber Fighters Campaign and will be the 1/48 Airfix Javelin. I'm telling ya folks, Airfix is back with a vengeance!

Think you might be right, though some folks will still need convincing! Typhoon looks really really neat.
Jan, I like this crashed Airacobra thing you're doing.
Phil, summer 1976, remember it well. Seems to be a significant and memorable year for various reasons, the year I started big school, maybe that's partly why.
Also around the time I acquired this kit, which is now, for the purposes of this campaign at any rate, finished. I have posted the following pics in the campaign gallery.
Thanks to all, it has been enjoyable and very motivational - I'm glad to have got this one out of the box in the wardrobe and into this state, and without this campaign I'm sure it would still be in the box.

Hi
I am cutting it real close but hopefully I'll be done in time
These were taken last week but never got around to posting

I really struggled with the fit, and plenty of putty was used. Funny enough the Airfix Spitfire I'm building fo the Battle of Britain campaign has the same fit issues

I was really disapointed.
Not included but already completed is the camo, light weatering and some of the decals hope to complete the rest tonight.
Cheers

Hi maanged to finish last night, after some decal wrinkling I had to resort to my spare decal box and therefore changed from 34sqn to 501sqn RAF Kenley, Surrey, 1940

Was really great fun, will post a photo tonight with my SAAF Hurricane and RAF Hrricane together.
Cheers

Greetings Richard,
I have a question: I started the Airfix 1/350 Trafalgar last week and I'm just getting her finished up today. I took pre-build pics and several in-progress. Obviously, none have been posted (thanks "Life"). My question is whether or not to post them as part of your Campaign. I've been following along (LOTS of planes!!) and you've had a great Campaign with some great builds. I'll leave it for you to decide if my sub still qualifies for your Camppaign.
Thank you in advance!

Greetings Richard,
Please disregard the above question! I just DROPPED my Trafalgar on her "tailbone" and damaged her prop blades!
Ouch
Guess I'll be finishing her up in the Unfinished Campaign!
Anyhow, thank you for the Campaign. You inspired me to build my first Airfix kit! I might have to consider picking up more!
Best wishes,
Daniel

Hi Matthew, it's a few layers of "mod podge", excellent stuff and dry's quick if the layer is not to thick "the" stuff to use to create water effects

Ah, my daughter has a tub of that... I'll remember I might need to "borrow" it sometime.
She bought it because of that crafty lady "My Froggy Stuff" on YouTube. Some of her doll stuff is great.
By the way Daniel - just as I was looking forward to seeing this sub... What a disappointment.

Well I made it in right under the wire for my Airfix #A02022 SBD 5 marked up as an A24B from the Group de Bombardment 1/18 "Vendee" 1944. (phone camera so pic is not that great)
My criticisms still stand for this kit but once I got the paint on it looked alright, someone with more skill could have probably made it look better but I'm happy with it. At the very least it allowed me to use my airbrush for the first time and while a little rough I think I did ok for the first time.
Decals that came with the kit worked well, although I had a few choice words with some of the smaller one when I was trying to get them on. also because this kit has a bad case of the rivets it some of the decals did not want to go on 100% smooth but used some Humbrol decal fix which seemed to help with that.
As for the spare canopy it worked but still didn't have that great of a fit but I did what I could.
Overall it still was a fun build and I think I've learned a few things that I hopefully can use on my next model. Now I just got to go find something blue I can use as a background for the gallery photo.
