Hi Robert, those are two very nice Spitfires. It looks like you nailed the colors for both of them and I really like how smooth the paint finishes look.

Hi
Pics uploaded to the gallery, here is a pic with Sailour Malan's spitfire that I built at the same time.
I'm going to call this the "Tale of two Spitfires". The Tamiya kit (Malan) what a pleasure to build and finish, even the decals, the Airfix(Battle of Britain) was a headache, filled to the brim with putty, as a result it is noticeably heavier.
Hi Ernst
Thanks for the kind words, and for reassuring me, the Airfix Spitfire almost broke my spirit.
Although not clearly visible in the photo, the BoB spitfire decals have a shine to them, the Tamiya decals went on the Malan spitfire without any hassles.
Yoyr 109 looks amazing by the way, top notch. Looking forward to seeing more.

Rob,
Is that the brand new Airfix Spit you had so much trouble with? The Hurricane was great!

Would a custom 1/72 E-Pen diorama qualify?

OK Willem, you got me. Do you mean S Boote? If so, would it be an early war, summer 1940 time frame?

OK, I give up. What was an E-Pen?

OK, a blast pen! I've never heard it referred to as an E-pen before. Now I see it, I see what you mean. Fine with me. Any plans to add an aircraft or two?

Me neither until I started my background research effort. Eventually this would be the idea, may only be able to get the diorama done in 11-ish days though

Hi there
Sadly, I've had to de-enlist.
I can simply already see the year running away with itself due to pressure of work. Realistically, lack of time at the workbench means I'm not going to get anything built for this - despite the subject being so dear to my heart.
If I do manage to take a break and squeeze in a last-minute entry, believe me, I will - but I wouldn't hold your breath.
Sorry - all the best
Rowan

Hi Michael
No, it's an older release kit Nr. 05115, the Spitfire Mk I/II kit.

Ah, that's good to hear. Their new stuff is up there with the best as far as I've seen (I'm working on the Javelin now.) Sorry about your experience, but you certainly did a nice job with it!

Hi Michael
Thanks, I haven't built one of the new Airfix tools yet, I don't even have 1 in the stash, I'll have to get 1.
I am actually an Airfix fan, I think I just got a dud of sorts

This build is approaching completion. The next few photos show the aircraft after decaling and with most of the weathering complete. I decided to show the plane in a moderately weathered condition reflecting the several weeks of missions its flew from a grass strip.
I tried Alclad's water based gloss coat for this build and overall the results were satisfactory. The decals were good quality and went down very well. A few markings were missing from the decal sheet, but I was able to source some left overs from past builds to fill in the blanks.

Finally got a start on my Avro Anson. Did get the fuselage halves together and cleaned up. Today was mostly getting resin parts ready and checking the fit of the clear parts.

Nice subject Chris. The CA kit, right?

It is the CA kit. Lots of test fitting and adjustments but all in all not a bad kit. The resin, PE and clear parts are real nice.

No real problems with the build so far. Good fit and engineering and good instructions. The wing joint is the only trouble area I've hit yet.
Cheerio!
-Sean H.
PS: I've got a question though. The instructions say the landing gear and both sides of the covers are painted "Sky". Was the landing gear well "Sky" also?

The silence was deafening!
I poked around the internet, and all seem to agree that British planes often had exterior colors in the wheel wells and landing gear doors, inside and out.
See what happens after building so many USN planes? I start making assumptions about all aircraft...
Oh, and not finding RAF Sky paint at the local hobby shop, my daughter and I searched around and settled on a Russian pale blue that seemed to match the color from the internet on my phone.
Cheers!

Sean,
Sorry about that! You're quite right about RAF aircraft having gear and bays in the underside color. As for Sky, RAF sky is actually a greenish grey shade. Tamiya and Model Master both make dedicated paints for it.

Thanks, Michael! I'm glad the sky outside is not that color.
