Welcome to The Big Three Campaign! This campaign is all about the big three WWII fighters (at least as far as model companies are concerned), the Spitfire, Bf109, and P-51 in all their variants. The campaign will run from 1 November, 2019 through 6 July, 2020.

If you want to see the rules and sign up, go here. Post campaign related discussion and in-progress photos in this thread. Pics of finished models should be posted in the campaign gallery.

Looking forward to models of those Western fighters that made the headlines in WWII!

Have just signed in as I have loads of Spits (15) and One-O-Nines (23) in my stash. Even some Stangs (7). Should find something suitable. Last week I bought an Aeromaster decal set of foreign 109's, among them a R.O.A. bird. Hmm, very tempting ....

Eduard 1:48 Bf 109G-2

Oh what the heck, I nearly have my Wildcat and Corsair finished up. I may as well line up another project or two. I have been wanting to build a 109 for a while now, so I'm in with Eduard's G-2 Trop.

I did a marathon last night on the P51, but the instrument panel (clear) was interesting. Per directions I placed the decal on the rear of the panel then painted the front black and using a fine brush painted in between the dials black.

This is my entry. The fairly rare (it seems) Airfix Spitfire MkVA, done in the markings of a very obscure pilot. A gent by the name Douglas Bader. Anyone ever hear of him?

I have some Eduard Photo etch to spruce up the cockpit since its very basic.

And here is the kit.

I may need to change my build to another kit. I mated the wing to the fuselage and noticed that the rear at the fin is warped.

I tried to see what could be done with some hot steam. Not gonna work, so I put the P-51a into the parts bin and pulled out a Special Hobby Spitfire Mk.Vc

Well! the Special Hobby Spitfire did not cooperate so it went into the trash.

My son gave the hot water trick another try and was able to fix the fin on the P-51.

Wow, that was a quick giving up, Bob! That's bad to hear. What went wrong? I know Special Hobby is not Tamiya but every kit has its little challenges. And SH is not cheap either.

Anyway, when the time has come (have just signed in the MiG Campaign), this will be my entry. And yes, I want to build the Utti Air Racer, shown on the box ....

Hello, Torsten. Re: the SH kit nothing matched up ie: wings to fuselage, and other stuff.

I still have the P-51 to work on and if needs be. A Bf109, I cannot wait to see your build take shape.

I will stay with the P-51 now that the rudder/fin has been straightened.

added the stab and finished up the cockpit.

While working on the gun installation I lost one to the floor. So I use some round plastic strue. Hopefully it will pass muster.

Hi all

Will be building Tamiya's 1/32 Spitfire Mk.VIII. I will be doing the scheme of Wing Commander "Bobby" Gibbes of No. 80 Wing, RAAF, Morotai Island, Dutch East Indies 1945.

Stephen and Jeff, nice looking kits.

While the canopy adhesive on the P-51 is drying I pulled the Spitfire down and thought I would play with it to see if there is any way that some putty and lots of glue will help.

Bob,
Keep working at it, the hard work will pay off.
How does the Special Hobby VC go together? I have the Revell rebox in my stash, so curious to know.

Stephen, I either purchased a warped kit or this one passed QC while they were at lunch.

Ive added styrene rod to fill in the gap that I made trying to give the a/c some dihedrel.

Hopefully you are able to see that

the fit for the cowl and filter is not very good.
