Lee,

Great progress on the Nimrod. That MAD boom with those spikes even in model form certainly looks like it can do quite a lot of damage.

Nicely done GR5. Clean and neat.

Looks like alot of great builds..

I have decided to build a Hawk 108 in RMAF colours using the Italeri kit and VFA decals.

I have not decided on which squadron yet.. both paint schemes are the same..
Hope I could finish this on time..

Here is some progress on my entry. A deHavilland DHC3 Otter in Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources colours.

Fuselage, front window is the kit window. The side windows are made from clear nail polish from the wife's collection.

Wings, I needed to redo all the panel lines as I messed them up after painting.

Pontoons, ready to even out the top surface.

Jonathan,
Both fuselages really look fantastic with the white gloss over the aluminum.

Darrell,
Those side windows really do look quite nice. How did you make them with clear nail polish?

What went wrong with the painting that you had to strip the wings?

Hello Joel,
I used the nail polish brush and touched it t the sides of the opening. By moving it to touch all sides and the centering it I let the polish run off until the window was filled. The wings were screwed up when I tried to score the panel lines a little deeper. The paint had filled the lines in so I tried to scrap the paint out but ran off course a few times. I decided to fill them all in and see if I can rescore the panel lines. I hope I can keep them straight this time. The tape is to keep the
scalloped flaps from being damaged to much. I hope it works.

Darrell,
Been there and done that a few times myself. I generally do any re-scribing before I prime. I do use the thicker rubber electrical tape as a guide. It really works quite well. I also bought the UMM-USA #1 'sriber, as it's the best one I've ever used. There is a link on the UMM-USA sight to their utube video on scribing with it.
Joel

Darrell,
I kind of figured it worked like that. I use to use Microscale Krystal Kleer that way, but it never dried that shinny.

I have managed to get a bit more done!

An I am posting my kit again along with the planned paint scheme I hope to pull off.

I have started to paint the inside of the intakes, Tamiya white primer followed by Future. I have also glued the fuse together and painted some of the cockpit.

Cheers Rob.

Rob,
Does that oldie but goldie Monogram kit have raised or recessed panel lines? I just don't remember. Nice work on the engine intakes. Those seams look like they could be a issue to remove without messing up the white paint. How did you go about it?

For issues like that, I really like using Vallejo white acrylic putty. Easy to apply with it's needle type applicator, and you just wipe it off with a damp Qtip. A few applications will be needed as it really shrinks, but there is no sanding needed.

Nice choice, Rob. An oldie, but a goodie as already pointed out.

Looking forward to see that colorful camouflage scheme.

I haven't been commenting for a bit, but, that hardly prevents the fine work going on here from happening.
Well done Jonathan, Ken, and Darrell. What a wonderful variety of subjects.
The F-101 is big in 1/48, isn't it Rob? I have two in the closet. Yours is coming along nicely.

Sadly, I'm having some family issue's right now, so my modelling is limited to a small figure and a couple of quick 1/72 builds. Hope to be better off in the spring.

Joel - Thanks for the rubber electrical tape idea. Where do you get it from. I just see the regular electrical tape.
Rob - The Voodoo looks better in Canadian markings, as does any military aircraft. I like the Hawk One markings.

Ben,
Sorry to hear that, I hope everything works out.

Joel,
The kit has raised panel lines I am hoping to get it done before Kitty Hawk releases a F-101B.
As for the seams I have been using this:

http://armorama.kitmaker.net/review/8468

I let it dry then smooth it out with a water soaked Q-tip it does not seem to shrink much if at all.

Jesper, Darrell,
I just hope I can pull it off, I have the decals but it is going to be some work to figure out the masking for the two main colors.

Cheers Rob.

Rob,
I really need to try some. Who carries it?

Darrell,
I bought the tape in the electrical dept at Home Depot.

Joel,
I got mine at my local Hobby Shop, I looked and they are distributed by Horizon Hobby in the US so should not be hard to get.

Some progress
I drilled out the holes in the rib next to the air brake using a drill a sharp knife and a file. I painted all the interior parts for the engines and sanded and filed the fuse seam, this kit having raised panel lines I taped off the lines with thin Tamyia tape so it was easier to sand most of them then removed the tape to carefully sand up to the lines. I installed the intakes into the lower wing and puttied and smoothed the bottom seam.

Cheers Rob.

One of the things I need to do for this aircraft is remove the slime lights as those are not present on the Canadian F-101's, here is one side done and the other not. I was about to install the other top wing when I noticed tabs on the root edge, if I had added the wing before attaching it to the fuse these would have to be cut off. I decided I wanted to keep these to help align the root so glued the remaining wing top on with the wing attached to the fuse but not glued yet. I the puttied and smoothed out the tops of the intakes.

Cheers Rob.

Hi all,

My entry is a short-runned Sky-High's ASW Ka-25 chopper, instead of the KP's Mi-8.

I'll try to change it from variant Ts (Sh) to PL, more suitable to VPN. Some of differences:

Raj great to see a whirly bird in the campaign! I look forward to seeing the kit built as I'm curious as to its quality.

Mr K. awesome choice! I've always liked the Kamov helicopters the contra-rotating blades make a tail rotor unnecessary and they've always looked very purposeful. I especially like the Ka52 Alligator it looks downright dangerous!

Typical Huh? You wait forever for a whirly bird to arrive, then TWO turn up together!

Should be a pair of interesting builds.

Thanks, Chris, Joel and all.
VN's Ka-25PL had been retired recently. I wanted to build a Ka-28, but didn't seek the kit yet.

Maybe, national budget has enough to buy only the wheels of Alligator.

Mr K I know what you mean new aircraft are exceedingly expensive! I look at our "Airforce" and I'm left thinking what Airforce? No fast jets no strike arm just helicopters and transport aircraft quite distressing really. But that's the reality of today's defense spending cuts.
