I have to admit, I am stumped. The worst part is I don't have my ref book with me so do some checking with.
It has a look of either Douglas or Bell.

It's gotta be a Douglas. That looks like a SkyWarrior or Scooter tail.

Well, I feel good I picked Douglas as my first guess.
Now I am so fixated on this thing. I must solve it!

When I saw it the first thing that popped into my head was Douglas X-plane. The X-plane was what messed me up. I didn't have my Janes book at home so I couldn't think of the other planes Douglas made at that same time. The B-29 in the back ground was a big hint or the age of the plane. I had totally forgotten they made some planes and did nto give them an X number.

It is the high-lift, blown wing test plane MDD built out of Phantom ii (intakes) and Scooter (cockpit, nose and UC) bits. I don't know the designation.

That looks like something out of a movie, like Flight of the Phoenix.
I will have to do some serious digging for that one..

It's not a movie prop. it is from a "known brand" manufacturer.

It is from the USA. The maker went on to design and build a couple of helicopters.
How's that?

Could it be a Sikorsky aircraft?
"Why you? Why me for that matter? Because the moment simply is. Have you ever seen bugs trapped in amber?"
"yes."
"well, here we are, trapped in the amber of this moment. There is no why."
