No worries Larsa!

Anyone can join in with a Roden 1/32 kit. The only prerequisit is it must ultimately be finished. The time limit is fairly flexible.

Due to popular demand.
Revised Requirements as of June 4, 2008
A. Finish the build within 12 months time.
1. Starting date February 1, 2008
2. Ending time Jan. 31, 2009.

B. Kit must be built with Roden kit parts.
1. Aftermarket parts can be used if they are specifically designed for the Roden kit you are building.
2. Profile or scheme must be from the kit .
3. Rigging medium can be any that the builder is familar with

C.Progress will be reported on a central thread in Early Aviation.
1. I will create a gallery you can upload and post images to.
2. You will be able to use these images to post to your threads.

Thats it folks. I have a request from two additional builders with 1/32 Roden kits in hand that want to get into the swing of things. Repainted has made his stand with the Nieuport 28 and wants to continue with the Alb. D.I. I have another fellow who wants to try his hand with the Pfalz D.III. This extends all build times to be finished by Jan. 31, 2009. Strap yourself in folks it looks like we are in for a wild ride.

For some reason I thought that I only had till the end of June, so have been ramping up in anticipation... I was actually starting to stress about it.

Thanks for restating the requirements Stephen. This means that I can have three kits on my bench again!

Cheers,

Hugh

Well you were close it was July 31 '08 but since I have had requests to push it forward from two enthusiastic fellows and I feel the pinch as well with 2 kits, we want to help everyone with this.

Wahoo! Aeroscale member Brad Cancian has consented to adding his 1/32 Roden Fok. F.I build to the Early Aviation Group build! Let me stress this is not a competition just an attempt at completion. We are here for each other. I have learned more about the SE 5a in this build and ever before. I just hope to pass some of this on. We have great fellows here just having fun. Model On !

Of course it isn't (a competition), It will however raise the bar somewhat for some of us. I just know that Brad's build is going to blow mine so far out of the water so as to put it in a geo-synchronous orbit. It will be interesting though. Brad is using different Etch to myself, and we both have different finishing techniques... Would be interesting to see both builds on the same bench.

Cheers,

Hugh

Hugh you are a modest gentleman. All of us agree here - your builds are very impressive. You are right that Brad's build will raise the bar. This Group Build just gets better and better. I know Roden has expressed their high satisfaction with our activities here.

For the ninth entry in this rather unique Group Build I would like everyone to welcome Steve H. Callsign Hatter50. He will be building the Roden 1/32 SE5a. He has a great start on the job and has commited to finishing with us. His presence will only help this be an even greater event. Tell me folks where else on the WWW could you see this? Another Aeroscale First.

I told you guys and gals before...................you MADE me do this. In a previous life I was a Marine Corps helicopter pilot, used to complex machines.

I had lurked around several forums for 1/16 and 1/8 scale biplanes and wanted one, and you think 1/32 is huge . I have followed several 1:1 biplane build blogs to get me familiar with the construction techniques of the real thing. My available SPACE laughed at me.

I found this forum and began to lurk for a while. But then I have lurked in a lot of places.

With the advent of Roden's 1/32 scale kits (which have the detail I'm looking for)...........and some really tremendous PE sets available I got hooked.

Your "work" in here gave me the push I needed to try something a bit different. I love 1/32 but the 1/35 helicopters and 1/32 WWII machines tended to kill the space I have to display. What they did do was provide me with a stage to build in detail. For 1/48 I'd need an industrial strength magnifier..... Although that Vector Mercedes engine in 1/48 has my attention. The WWI era provides a simplicty yet also a complexity that grows with research.

Back to my SE5a. I'm glad to be a part of this build.

Regards
Steve

Hmmm,

Who'd like to see the SE5a built up entirely from the box with no alterations, no aftermarket and no scratch building?

Any volunteers?

Hugh
