Very cool ribbon, Andrzej. I like it a lot.

If I had to say one thing, then maybe the "speed of sound burst" could be a little more fussy at the corners?

Anyway, better than anything I can come up with

Thanks Jesper,
I wanted to keep a bit symbolic (and maybe I've overdone ). Now I'm at work and I don't have my software here so I will try to make some changes this afternoon. We will see the effect and than decide which looks better.

I second that. Great ribbon!!!!

Does this one qualify (the postman just delivered it)? It might go Mach 1,7 but I do not think there is enough air space in Austria to fly that fast

cheers

Anderzej, It is a great ribbon. I think we all can agree on it. An F-14 entering the "Cone of Silence" We hope we can get you to spend a little less time with those tanker guys, and do up an airplane or two. Top gun is where I got the idea for the campaign.

Steffen, Yes that will work. I hope you are going to do it. Love the colors.

Fast with floats? I was thinking of one of those Supermarine thingies. But a Macchi will work also.

Now if you will excuse me, I have to pay for a speeding ticket.

I did a SB-6 for between the wars. So a maachi will go nicely with it. Can only find it in 1/48. Anyone know of a 1/72 scale kit of it?

nektarios, you are a mind reader. Bonnie isn't she? Looks like she should go much faster than the paper plane that is an X43

is there a 1/48 kit on the market?what company?
its beautiful...if only i could scratchbuild
it !

Very nice ribbon Andrzej!

SMER do a 1/48 MC-72. seven to ten euro.

Just found a 1970's 1/72 MC-72 by Delta. But it is a collectors (boo!) item so is ten pounds on ebay.

Hmm, decisions decisions.

Hi,

Since Jesper suggested more "fuzzy" sound barier cone on the ribbone, here it is:

and the campaign friendly format:
.

I hope it's better now

Andrzej, The ribbon is great. Question for experts. Would the sonic boom be in the middle or the front of the aircraft. One of Jespers Speed banners would look great on your rotation. And I thought we had you talked into enlisting for this on.

Jesper, you are the banner king.

This is going to be a great campaign. I have already changed my mind on what to build soooo many times. The possibilities are almost endless. What to do, what to do.

As far as I remember my phisics lessons "sonic boom" starts in front of the plane and then the plane flies through the "wall" between the zones with different air presure.

1/48 Smer MC72 ordered. why can I not just buy a tamigawa kit and save myself the grief?
Because I'm mean, that's why

well, that's the simplistic, physics 101, view. and if the plane were truly needle shaped (without wings, tailfins, etc), that'd be close to true, but not quite. the part about the shock forming at the nose would be true at least.

i have a phd in physics, and fluid dynamics (which includes shocks) was a big part of it. things are rarely as simple as they are stated in undregrad physics.

the plane never "flys thru" the shock, but is rather always the source of it. the shock cone does change shape with increasing speed though. what the plane does fly thru is turbulance associated with being just below the speed of sound - turbulance cannot exist past that speed because for turbulance to form, the information that she shock is coming must be conveyed upstream, and since you are going faster than the information speed (in this case, the speed of sound), the air cannot "know" enough to form turbulance.

anyway, the vapor condensation isn't actually at the shock anyway, but rather just behind it.

also, you'll generally only see the vapor condensation cone for a bird going transonic. once you are past the speed of sound, the conditions for vapor condensation tend to dissappear

Vance - thanks a lot for very good description of the shock thing. I have master degree in electrical engineering and most of phisics I've learned concerned electro-magnetics... Fluid dynamincs was something we did not focus on (as you can see ).
Thanks again for explenaining of this shock-cone-transonic-vapor-flying thing .
BTW I would not like to analyse mathematical model of this problem...

yeah, well, now that I work for AMD instead of being a scientist anymore, an EE degree would probably have served me a lot better!

I was actually into civil engineering. Did pretty good in fluid dynamics and physics. I never really studied sonic booms though. I guess it really has nothing to do with building bridges.

I just gat a package yesterday. There was a Tomcat in roll out colors inside. Also, another Mirage IIICJ. Making a choice is really going to be rough.

Hi Carl

I bought my entry the other day at Hannants:

.

I'll review it this week - the test-fit looks good so far.

All the best

OK. I've enlisted...
My entry will be Italeri 1/48 F-15... My first plane since probably 1989...

Hello guys . I was lucky over on eBay last week, and picked up this -

I believe it held the speed record at one point, and was the first carrier fighter to exceed Mach 1.

I'd like to enlist, if you don't mind an OOB builder joining your group.

Cheers,
Mike

I might be in for this one as I've just checked the stash and I have two B-58 Hustlers in 1/44 (Minicraft) and 1/48 (Revell) assuming i have the time and this kit would be acceptable?

Cheers

Allen
