I Feel the Need, the Need, for Speed

How about a speed campaign? The subject of the build would be anything that is fast.

F-104, X-15, Tomcat, SR-71... Maybe we could limit to anything that can break the sound barrier.

Well, I would be on for this one. Any definition would be good for me.

Both "Any plane that can break the sound barrier" or "Any plane that held a speed record".

However, if we go for "Any plane that held a speed record". It should be the ok to enter the "mass produced" version of the aircraft and not the specific version of the aircraft that broke the sound barrier.

I would be very agreeable to that. I was trying to think of a way to get some aircraft of different eras involved. The production versions of those aircraft that held the speed record should also be includedSo lets go with that.

Any aircraft that broke Mach 1 or any aircraft type that held a speed record.

Jesper)- Have you seen that picture of the F-14 just as it just started breaking the sound barrier. The sonic waves are clearly visible. Wouldn't that make a fantastic ribbon? (Hint, hint)

I'd be in for either version of the campaign! I have an X-1, an X-15, a bf-109 conversion for a race winner, a SM.79, and an F-104 in my stash that all need building. seems like these could all qualify in one way or another.

what about "record holders, sound breakers, and race winners"

http://www.fai.org/records

Lots of scope here for all sorts of aircraft.
Pictures and info on the record breakers. Really good site.
Should restrict it to speed records probably.

Very good definition. I would go for that.

Yeps, I have seen that and I have also seen the picture with a F-18 doing the same. It might be a little nitty gritty for a ribbon, but would surely look great on a Banner for profiles.
I volunteer to be your second in command on this campaign if you need one, Carl. So far it worked well for the battle of Europe campaign.

Fine with me Jesper. Now all we need are some people.

I actually have an F-18 Hornet (Academy 1/32) I would love to do for this campaign.

Any preferences for start and end dates?

...I...am...speed

.....I´m...SPEED

I`M SPEED!

I`M IN!

How fast can we go?

Only one option here, SR-71 Blackbird!

If the timeframe is not too soon (too many campaigns right now!) and long enough to build something decent of my old Testor´s 1/48 kit, let´s say 6-9 months.

Cheers!

So far we have:
1. CaptainA
2. jaypee
3. SGTJKJ
4. Phantom2
5. Tomcat31

Half way there.

Just think of the possibilities.

This will not start for a while, so we all have time to plan this one out.

That would be fine with me. We still need 4 more speed demons to sign up though.

Hi Carl - Great idea for a campaign! Provided that it would include aircraft types that held speed records, I would be happy to join with my favorite aircraft of all times (an aircraft that I have yet to build)...

On May 6th 1954, the Saab J 29B Tunnan set a new record of 977 km/h on a 500 km long course, beating the record previously held by the American Sabre. In March of 1955, two Tunnans (S 29C) broke the record speed for a 1,000 km long course. I hope that this will make "the barrel" a possible entry.

This certainly seems to be speeding along. We only need one more.

All those previously mentioned aircraft will qualify for this build. I will go ahead and get the proposal put together so we can submit it after the tenth person commits.

Sounds good, Carl. As soon as we have the 10th person and the campaign is up for "real" signing up I will post the banners. I have finished 5 which look rather good.

Looking forward to get this of the ground.

Ok i'll break my usual modern subject phobia and do a Mirage IIIC, my all time favourite post WW2 aircraft. In fact, if Hobby Boss would release a IIIO version i'd even break my non-Australian subject rule and do a RAAF "Miracle" (what we called the Mirages- anything that looks like that and can fly has to be a miracle). I joined the RAAF as they were phased out of service by the F-18's...which is a girly plane compared to the old Mirages!

One thing though, i think one of the Bf109 prototypes held the air speed record at one time- careful you don't just end up with another campaign full of Messerschmitts!

Great, now we are the required 10 participants. Welcome onboard, Andrew. I think you are right about the Bf 109. I might do both a Bf 109 and a F-100 for this campaign. Anyway, one of the "century" cool war fighters is a must for me for this campaign.

Carl, could you submit the campaign? Then we can get participants to sign up on the page and start spreading the word through the banners.

The start is at 1st Dec. 2008. Any aircraft that broke Mach 1 or any aircraft type that held a speed record at some point is eligable.

Submitted. "Speed" Campaign, 12/1/08-6/1/08. Rules were submitted as agreed to in this forum. So everybody has an excuse to get some jet (or other speed) kits. Happy shopping.

Any ideas for ribbons? I would love to have one with that Tomcat Breaking through. (Second pic) But as Jesper said, it might be difficult.

Andrew)- I did the Eduard Mirage III CJ. Loved the kit. I am going to get at least 2 more for my stash. Those Isreali markings are great, with the big, bright, colorful, quick ID panels. It also looks like this won't be a Willy M campaign, except for Jesper.

Speed everybody.
