F-111 Aardvark, the controversial F-111 I've heard of, but F-111 Pig Whats up with that????

I am not sure why, but Pig is it's nickname in the RAAF.

Ah, I thought that they had originated the Aardvark moniker. Worked on a project on RAAF RF-111 centuries ago at General Dynamics.

We never had A Models. Aardvark came from the USA. The RAAF had three versions of the F111, F-111C, RF-111C and F-111G.

I worked on many aircraft in my time and what amazed me about the F-111 was how solid it felt. You slap the skin and get a dull thud rather than a hollow sort of noise like with an F-18. Hard to describe.

I think the USAF and RAAF made a big mistake by retiring them.

Thanks Warren , was the first time seeing it in the hobby shop and they only had three jars of the stuff . Was going to pick up Vallejo copper but it didn't look right , has a fake appearance to it .

Terri, I drove 47 miles to the LHS to purchase some Evergreen sheets, KS mesh screen and a Roden 1/48 Fokker DVII only to come away with one bottle of Abroid PROWELD.

40 plus miles to a LHS? You're in Pasadena for crying out loud, not like it's the middle of nowhere... Why when I was a kid in North Hollywood there was a great LHS just a bike ride away. Course that was back when a different actor was running California and that LHS is now in Carson City, Nevada!

Yep Mark, you are correct about the actor but when you only ride the bus (California revoked my license stating that I was a menace to the public by having a seizure while driving)it does not matter how close the LHS is, it still seems as far as the moon. Mail order is a God send.

@ Paul: I have not seen the SMER 504K in a while, nice catch.

@ Mark: it was a gift from uncle Sam and a little mishap in a P3. Sorry to hear about your cousin.

Thanks Tim

Yes, those are pre-made kits. Snap fit ones to be exact. All 3 are 1:200 scale B737 NGs. From L to R they are :
B737-800, B737-700 & B737-900.
The -700 & -900 i had purchased from Boeing store in Seattle while the -800 one was presented to me by Boeing in 2008 when i had gone there for the ferry of a new aircraft.

Picked up the following kits from Bahrain.

Now i had a question to ask of the Luftwaffe Experten here. If i remove the Radar Dipoles from the nose of the Me 262, can it pass off for a 2-seater trainer??? Or are the differences between the two too many??

Cheers

Raj, if you think it represents the trainer then thta is all that matters my friend. I thought the trainers were all taken over to be night fighters and such.

Four days in a row!! The modelling Gods are smiling on me at the moment! These are only the 3rd and 4th 1/48 scale kits I have purchased. I decided that is was almost impossible to get much of a collection of RAAF aircraft in 1/32, and this scale takes up much less room in the display cabinets. I know Montex makes a 1/32 Boomerang, but I am not that rich!

... And then I went up the street to my postbox and found the 4 x 20mm Flak barrel sets I ordered a few weeks ago for just $6.99 instead of 25 Euros listed in other places..

Oh, and two aircraft of the Aces books, SE.5a and Albatross fighters.

Nice haul everyone!!

Today I got my dose of lucky modelling for this month:

mmost important are the gun sights for my "Aces2" FM-2. You might notice that I collected a bit of stuff for the Thud ... Nicolas diorama "Rolling Thunder" over at Armorama persuaded me to go with the HB kit for the "Pin ups campaign" ... though this is rather pornographic in comparison.

The Engine for the Tamiya kit is just a spice for a side project of the future KNIL-MIL machine ... a pilot named Deibel (devil) is just too cool to miss and he had 3 airial victories. The JAS-39 parts are also or a future project (though this is surely no side project as I also bought 3 CMK sets for it) .. I just liked the latest Czech Tiger meet aircraft:

(photos from different sources just linked for demo)

all the best
