Nice build, Warren. Those WWI birds were definitely colourful. No doubt where that aircraft came from.

I have now finished my Bloch 174 for this campaign. It is the old 1/72 Heller kit. The lack of details is overwhelming, but it looks like the right thing.
I am not completely satisfied with the cockpit glazing, but it could not find the motivation to start cutting those masks for it as no finished set is existing from Eduard or others.
Anyway, I like the look of it and it was an enjoyable build with an excellent fit of the parts. No filler used at all.

Comments welcome

Thanks Jesper. Heller eally did have a huge range of great subjects in the late 70's, early 80's. I remember thinking how good they were compared to Airfix and Matchbox stuff..

Yes, considering the age it is a quite good kit, but details are of course lacking by a very large margin compared to todays standards. However, when this kit was first released the cockpit industry standard might have been a flat plate with a plastic blob to simulate the head of the pilot.

Another one chalked up Jesper. I like the colours
what did you use for the brown abd green?

Here is the progress so far. A bit of presading and two coats of yellow.
Not sure if this plane #277 really ever did get a yellow tail but it looks good.

pretty quiet round these parts And Bastille day passed without a mention. This is about halfway through
the campiagn now.

everyone must be watching le tour. Nice that Lance Armstrong is doing well, he is either clean and brilliant
or very clever and brilliant. Either way I've nothing but admiration for him. Just glad it is not like one of those
old boxers coming back.
That does not make me very French at all!!

Anyway, i've painted the main colours on the d.520. looks nice with the sharply demarked yellow tail.
took me only 2 hours to apply four colours with the airbrush. youd never be able to do that with a brush.
I did it freehand but i feel i need the assistance of masks for this, one for the future.

the finish i've made a bit uneven as this a/craft would have already been abused and operated in harsh conditions at the time the yellow tail could have been applied.

Sorry no photos, the camera is elsewhere but will post pics, probably on Monday.

Vive la Republic.

Salut Wolfpack! Tres bien.
That blue and white decal really make the scheme !POP!.

Here is some work in progress shots of legloans d.520, Tamiya 1/48.
Paint according to the kit callouts then lightened with white. Coated with
future ready for decals. Not much preshading remains. Will use thinner paint
next time.

Trawling French language sites I found a picture of #277 just after it crashed. It has a yellow tail!! And a few other features too.

Hi All
Finally got round to finding a French aircraft that I fancy and as far as I know no-one is building. The colour scheme is boring and the kit has relatively few parts but it could be an interesting build, and is completely and undeniably French

Appropriately, this is the 100th anniversary of Bleriot's big flight across "La Manche"

Forgive my ignorance, but how can you tell it had a yellow tail and not just a stripe around the rear fuselage??

Well short answer is I can't. I've never seen this particular plane with a yellow tail but it was the markings for the
Sryian theatre, applied to most, if not all, planes. A band around the tail was not a recognised marking so
this is likely to be yellow. It is really confirmation that the profile is correct more than anything but the replaced
panel is interesting I'll see it I can incorporate it.

Later came the red/yellow Vichy stripes that are more familiar.

Bleirot as french as they come. Nice choice Warren.

Andrew is building the Bleriot mate..

I was not saying you are wrong, and it is your plane so you can build it however you want. Was just wondering was all.

Are you anywhere near Cawdor Castle, JP?

No worries. It is a point of interest whether #277 wore the yellow tail that's all.
Sometimes I like to do a bit of digging to see if the schemes are OK or if I'm
doing a little something different

Oops yes wrong person help to actually read the names. Nice choice then Andrew.

Cawdor Castle is way up north near Inverness, I'm living in the Kingdom of Fife and work
in what was the old RNAS Donibristle. Why'd you ask?

'Cause I am about seventh in line for it..

If you have a look on the wall in the entance you will see a painting of my great great great grandfather.. I look exactly the same. I went there back in 1986. Problem is I am getting further and further from getting it as most of the persons in front are just children..

Hi JP

I built that aircraft too, when Tamiya's kit came out

i was not very familiar (and still am not) with french colours then and i did not care so i just mixed the tones "frei Schnauze". I found a few pix of the yellow tailed D.520 since. One was a colour shot from Athens Tatoi (IIRC) where "6" could be seen very small in the background ....

cheers
