Your Ju 86 looks great Jesper, I agree about the 3-colour splinter, it's a great eye-catcher. I'm glad you have persisted to beat this "bugged" build !

Cheers, D

The JU-86 is looking great. It is not a bomber I am familiar with, I don't know if there is any JU-87 connection but for some reason it makes me feel like I know what a twin engine Stuka might look like.

It has a bit of the same pointed wing shape as a Stuka and a little inverted gull break in the wings, so I can see what you mean.

The JU 86 was seriously underpowered - even more than the Stuka. A very limited bomb load and no ability to dive bomb. The JU 86 would never recover from a dive bombing run - it would turn into a kamikaze attack.
The JU 86 was basically obsolete before the start of WWII.

More to follow over the weekend

OK, So I was building a Marauder, but had some issues with the engine nacels. Thus, I'm building a B-17 visible from Revell. Pics soon.

Sorry to hear about the Marauder. On the other hand the B-17 with visible interior with be a beauty.

Howdy,
no update this time from me but a question: does the undercariage in the B-17 model from Academy in 1:72 scale requires strenghening or changing into metal? It is joined to the wing only in two places while one of them doesn't look strong. The model looks a bit heavy when I hold it so I wonder about the u/c strenght. It's high time to make the decision for me but I still can't make up my mind.

No need to replace it as it is more than strong enough to hold the belly off the ground.. I built the nose-art one recently for the pin-ups campaign and it is next door with one of the neighbour's children now.

Thank you Warren. In the meantime I wrote a PM to Nigel and he said the same. If you two say the same then it must be true

More progress on my Italeri 1/72 JU-86. It is definitely not my best build. Partly because of the quality of the decals and because I did not wash the plastic parts well enough before base coating them - causing problems with paint adherence.

More to follow.

Progess on my 48 scale B-17 visible by Revell.

Hopefully I will be able to spray the exterior of the fueslage today. I want to cut the wing on the visible side and add a framework. Someone also suggested that I cut through the inner engine nacel, but I don't have any references to do that. Critisizm welcome.

I found a good picture of the wing's infrastructer. I think I can tackle this with some putty and 0.05 steel rod. This will be the largest scratchbuild project I have undertaken. Here are some pictures of my interior assembly:

I'm not seeing the campaign album listed under 'currently active campaigns'. Let me know how/where to post and I'll start uploading some pics.

Here's my small update of the build. I finally managed to glue fulesage halves together and the same with wings. Fuselage required a lot of putty to be used 'cos no matter how I tried some edge has always been jut out. After the sanding I still will have to rescribe few panel lines, especially around the bomb bay doors.

The gallery is for the completed builds Matt. In progress shots are fine right here. I'll check thing out to make sure it's there. If not, I'll get it started. Thanks, "Q"

The gallery is up and running. Look under the Campaigns tab, then click on the Big Beautiful Bombers campaign. Additional images/info button will take you to it. There are already several completed builds posted there. "Q"

Some more progress photos.

Be coming to a stop soon. Ity bitty pieces of masking tape and I don't get along well. Should have enough money to order the fast mask, soon.

Finished! At last. Well, actually I finished up "Mild and Bitter" a few days ago, only to find out the batteries in the camera where D.O.A. Of course, over the weekend my IMPS chapter had their mall show, so I didn't get any pictures of that either

But, now we are all set and good to go, so....with no further ado, Monogram's B-26 "Mild and Bitter" OOB;

She was the first B-26 in England to reach 50 missions and the first to reach 100 missions successfully flown. Makes her as important an aircraft as Memphis Belle or Flak Bait IMHO.

Thanks for reading

Hi everybody,

Back with a few snaps from my Ju88. This cockpit is very time consuming, I estimate that around 60% of the model building time is dedicated to it's tub.

The propellers

The scratched-build MG131 ammo box, located at the forward canopy, manned by the co-pilot,, wich is oddly absent from every detailling add-on...

Another forgotten part of this kit, the ventral gondola. A bit of internal structure was added, painted and weathered. Still lacks the leather cushion, plus all parts concerning the MG131 zwilling.

Bruce, lovely Marauder!

Cheers
Pedro

Nice build, Bruce. It looks very good.

I have now finished my build. The only thing I am really satisfied about is the splinter camouflage. Basically everything else went bad - especially the decals. Out of pure stubborness I decided to finish this kit, when the best thing would probabbly have been to throw it out and start on another build. I will continue to do some experiments on weathering on this aircraft - if they come out nice I will upload new pictures. Otherwise this is it.

I have one more of these kits in my stash. Now I know to be hard on the decals or find replacements. And to wash all parts very throughly to avoid the basecoat lifting with the masking.

Jesper, thank you for the compliment, but the weathering didn't show up very well in the photo's However your Ju looks pretty nice even with all the problems you had Good build
